Need advice and also a warning.

Just looked at post #9, this guy has 9 friends with known criminal records!! I would call for a police escort and take a flat bed and get it RIGHT NOW. If he fails to produce what better witness than the local police?

a lot of that sounds really typical of resto work in body shops, but it's sad to say that.

YOu have a title.

GO pick up the car and bring a police escort. Simple. And if the car isn't there, he has to immediately produce it or be arrested for grand theft.

this. You've already spent the money. Hire a flat bed and rent a truck, and meet the cops a block away. Then get all of what's yours and walk away without commentary on the past or condition. Once you have the stuff, you can initiate legal action for $$ or whatever if you feel that's warranted. But get the car and all parts first.

wont work.

This sucks.
Unfortunately sound like you gotta get the
Car physically whatever means possible.

Lawsuit game goes to the guy with more money and corrupt lawyers in kahoots.Seen it before.

If you have a title for JH23G0A123456

...and the VIN on the car is JH23G0G987654

What car are they gonna let you take?

To me this is all rich people stuff...
I'm sorry but people have come to know me to say what's on my mind here good or bad but the only thing that rings in my head is "a fool and his money are soon parted"...
Who tosses this kind of money at some idiot in his garage....
50 Cent's says the Op has lost his money and we'll never see anyting... But more heartache....
I had to get that off my chest but I hope everything turns out for the best honestly I'm not meaning to put anybody down but I just had to get that off my chest...

Also one more thing I have to add is the Op was never in the "hobby"...
you have to have a car to begin with and then you have to have it at home and work on it and you have to do something with it not just get ripped off by a thief..
In my opinion the hobby never began..
If the Op ever wants to get actually into the hobby he needs to buy a car put it on a trailer or as a matter of fact put it on the trailer or on a truck then buy the car.... Take it home and work on it.. and if at some point it needs repair Beyond his abilities he needs to research shops..

There is also the possibility that neither car exists any longer. He may have sold them both off long ago and just stringing the op along. I hope this is not the case. Kim

Of course no one of us Wishes the op any ill-will or anything like that and I definitely hope he gets everything that he paid for but I'm thinking this crook sold that car to several people...

Sorry, J-Par, I haven't told you my whole life story but I've "been in the Hobby" for 30 years. Cars I've owned and worked on and hauled across country multiple times.......2 -1969 superbees, 2 -1969 Coronet 440, 1 -'65 Dart charger, 3 -1968 Barracuda Notchbacks 1 was 318 4 spd, and 2 were 318 727, 1 -1970 Challenger 340.

This is the first time I've attempted to let someone else do a full paint job and I wanted to build a car from the ground up. Never had to deal with this crap before, and I'm reminded every time I try to let someone else do something for me....This is why I do it myself.

If you just want to be negative and not offer up any meaningful advice, then why comment?
I realize that I may walk away with nothing but I'm asking the wealth of knowledge on these forums for advice on how to make the best attempt at getting something out of this deal.

By the way, I did actually go down there and get a bunch of parts from him at some point. Although a bit junky but I could sell them and possibly recover a couple grand. Better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Your what, a 2 hr drive from this car?
Should already be in your posession and moving fwd with legal action, if required.

Body shop hell is self inflicted.

Yeah, bout 2.5 hrs. I know it's close enough to just go get it. But, he moves it into storage and he's "out of town", it's now in his friends garage, now it's at is house, blah blah blah. I'm 100% he's not telling the truth. If he's not, then his life must be hell, the amount of excuses and BS he comes up with is insane. Pathological/professional liar.

You are not taking action and you are not utilizing tools and resources at your disposal to rectify the situation.

I dont believe there will be any more insight/advice given that hasnt already been given. Its Monday, lawyers are open if thats the route you choose. Uhaul is open to rent a trailer. Cops are available. I sympathize with you as I got ripped by a well known Mopar guy, but at this point what the hell are you waiting for?
The internet aint gonna solve your problem. Its on you.
Hell I did the google search and posted the link for people to see.

haha, well, in all fairness I was trying to be patient with this guy, but I"m out of patience and that's why I came to the forum. I didn't know even where to start. I'm putting some of the advice from this discussion to use now. I didn't have any experience dealing with this kind of shady practices.

you know I wanted to write it on a piece of paper and then take a picture of it next to the date and the time for today because I knew what you were going to say.... You're going to get upset and turn your frustration back on me when it should be solely on you..
and now knowing the fact that you've been through all this and in the hobby for this long and letting this happen..
What's that saying about knowing better but doing it anyways...
This is just as much my forum as it is anybody else's...
Like everybody is saying, don't talk about it be about it...
Go get your crap and stop the bleeding...

Even if the pickup fails. Now you have...

Action
Police documentation
evidence

to proceed further

and I don't mean to sound negative because there is absolutely nothing I hate worse and I don't use the word hate very often but thievery! We all work damn hard for the little things that we get and I have not that much and I value every last piece of it because I work very hard for it. Trust me this frustrates me more than words can describe. I personally spend so much time taking precautions that these things don't happen. Not to say they never do happen and not to say that I have ever been taken that's for sure good for crying out loud this is a lot of money... In my world at any rate..
This from somebody who saved for months just to buy some cheap knockoff Chinese aluminum heads for $800. And still don't have the money for the bolts and gaskets to put them on...

I wasn't frustrated with you, just the fact you say stuff you have no idea about. You don't know me or my history. I thought since you were making assumptions about me I'd fill you in. You talked about how I'm not in the hobby because I asked someone else to work on my car.

I started this thread three days ago to get advice on how to go about taking tougher action. Now that I have some kind of direction I can move forward with a bit more knowledge on how to legally get my stuff. I haven't blamed anyone but myself on this and I was just warning other people to avoid dealing with this guy because he'll try to cheat you.

You sound like you are defending this guy, you must be like him and make deals like he does, must have similar business practices. Oh sorry did I make an assumption about you without knowing you? Sorry about that. I'll remember to avoid any of your classifieds too.

Thanks for your wise advice, I'll just go get the car then. So simple why didn't I think of that?

Now it's a flame fest and as ragtop said, nothing more good is going to come from this thread. Nothing but trolling going on now.

Bahahaha... now I'm defending the guy and I'm a thief LOL you need to ask around pal...
I've been on the site for over 5 years now and you won't find anybody that says anything like that about me...
You'll find a big group of people who don't like the things I say but you'll never find anybody that I've done bad deals with..
okay I will unwatch the thread now and just as long as you don't quote me I won't read what you have to say you can go ahead and get the last word...

Oh so did I make an assumption about you without knowing you? Again, I apologize. I've also been around this site for 10 years! Ha! Beat that! Don't be offended.

I had one deal go bad in 30 years didn't know how to deal with it. All I was asking for was advice.

Your first statement was offensive and offered nothing valuable to the conversation.

Since you think I pay other people to change the blinker fluid in my Bentley, then how about I buy you the gaskets and bolts you need for your Chinese heads and you come down an help me get the car. Fair trade? Insulting enough?
