1972 Fender extensions with a 1971 Grille

Hi Everyone

I have a set of '72 fender extensions with the shallow chrome trim. Can anyone advise, from personal experience, if a 1971 grille will fit properly with this configuration? From what I understand, the correct combo for this grille would be fender extensions with the deep trim.
