Why I disagree is because I tried . The chrome the 71 head light rim hits the chrome trim. I am not going by assumptions as 72bluNblu because i compared them side by side on the shelf? I tried the 72 extension on my Demon with the shallow 72 chrome the head light rim from the 71 rim hit the chrome before seating. . The side of the 71 rim is different. I am not saying without some trimming they won't fit. But none the less good luck. They didn't work for me and I have been doing these Demons a long time.
I believe this is the same guy who said that they never made a early and late 1970 Duster fender. after I posted pictures he never admitted he was wrong.
You can save your shallow 72's for your car . but I would suggest picking up a pair of 70 fiberglass they are the best to use of all the extensions and they will fit. the studs are replaceable and again they will fit. On the 71's once the studs break they are very hard to repair but can be done carefully drilling and using 10/32 studs . I just sold 72's on this site. If they would have fit my Demon they would still be here. They are metal with screw in studs unlike the 71's that are white metal studs.
I have a few to try if you want. Mine did not fit for some reason.

First, that wasn't me with the Duster fender. I couldn't care less about a mid-year fender change, so I definitely wouldn't argue about it. Leave that for all the OE resto guys and their garage queens, if the fender fits I don't care. That's like arguing a vinyl stripe is a 1/4" too low. No one cares, least of all me.
And second, let's be clear here. If the '71 and '72 headlight surrounds are dimensionally the same, and they
ARE, then the '72 headlight grille surround wouldn't fit a '72 with the shallow extensions either. But I've been down this road with you before, so I figured it'd be faster to just mount up the '72 extension I have left over on my '71 Dart and show you that you're wrong rather than try to discuss logic.
So, here's my '71 Dart with it's factory extension, trim, and grille. It was dinged up by the previous owner so it has to come off anyway
Here's the original extension and the extra shallow one I still had, you can clearly see the shallow one matches the ones posted above, it hasn't been modified.
And now we're cooking with gas. The '72 shallow extension, mounted on my '71 fender, with the headlight surround installed. Clearance everywhere. The top lip where the trim mount looks close, but it's clear by well over a 1/4". I'd mount up the trim if I had one for the passenger side, but there's room all the way around so it won't hit anything. All the parts here are original '71 parts except for the fender extension.
The '72 trim piece I do have is for the other side, but I'll post it here just so it's obvious that it doesn't have anything sticking out anywhere that would interfere. The lip on the trim is flush with the extension, if the extension doesn't hit, neither will the trim.
So now that I've posted pictures, are you going to admit you were wrong?
You can absolutely use the shallow fender extensions and trim with a '71 grille. I tried it, it works, there's the pictures.
