1970 Swinger 340 Hemi Orange 4 speed

Man if I had the money I'd give you an all expense payed trip to come down and do my car, that Dart is going to be AWESOME, Oh and all the Molsen you can drink.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff! If I could afford paying someone to do this stage I definitely would, haha. I can see why cars get stuck in body shop jail.. it’s such a dirty and tedious job!

Just need to block out a couple spots on the quarter that need a little extra attention and I’ll give it a coat of HS primer! Then on to the trunk, Dutch panel and valences and I’m done with this grunt work! It’ll still get another blocking and coat of HS primer, but no more filler and poly once those pieces are done.

Looking awesome Hemiorangeswinger! Can wait to see it painted. Looks like all the hard work will pay off. Thanks for keeping us posted on your work and before you know it you will be behind the wheel rowing through the gears!

Thanks! I’m pushing myself to get it in paint for spring of next year.. still got a long ways to go, but I think I got a lot accomplished so far. Once I’m done the trunk and Dutch panel I’ll start taking it apart and blocking/priming piece by piece and painting in behind everything. Then re assemble and align everything give it a final sanding and get it painted!

It’s so nice blocking the HS primer compared to the filler/polyester! I blocked out the main part of the quarter again and got all the trouble areas worked out. The glasurit primer goes on so nice and sands easy!!

Got it unmasked and started on the front valance and scoops. Need to dig out some old repairs and redo them on one scoop. I want to get the new stud kit before I do the repair because it’s cracked where a stud goes in and I want the stud in place before I fix it.. in case it stresses the area out putting in the stud later.

Propped up a 340 rim just because I forgot what it looks like with wheels, haha. I need to get the 5 of them blasted and powder coated gloss black. Then I’ll order up some original white wall wide oval bias ply tires for them!

Been working on the back end this week. Fixed one of the mounts for the trunk spring torsion bar and got the trunk straightened out a bit. Still has more to go.. I don’t know what happened to it, but it was twisted and bent really bad! I’ll finish working on it this weekend and strip it. It’s original paint off a 340 car and doesn’t have a spot of rust on it anywhere, just had a bad twist and the lips were bent in a few spots. Also got the rear valence fit.. for an AMD panel it actually fits nice for a change! It’ll need a little work getting it to fit nice and tight up to the quarters (some minor welding and bodywork like the front one needed) also put the rear bumper on to see how everything lines up.. not bad! My hoodscoop mounting kit should be here next week as well so I can finish up the scoops.

Haven’t updated in a little while, but I’m still going at it! Got a lot accomplished and nearing the end of the hard work of sanding filler!

Are you gonna paint your scoops black?
Mine have been repainted, but they came that way. The original owner showed me some old pics to verify it.

Mine are going Hemi orange. (Putting the car back to how it originally came) I was talking with Joel H Cooper about the scoops recently (the 70 dart 340 guru) and he was saying the only time they were black was when you got the v21 hood blackout treatment. Maybe yours was done by the dealership when it was new?

My dad painted his black when he had his 340 dart 20yrs ago.

I've missed a few months of progress apparently-reading this thread and seeing your progress makes me happy

"and a new door vin sticker."

Loving what you are doing, great skills, can't wait to finish reading and looking at your documenting of the build.
Presently on post #302 and noticed the portion "quoted" above.

Question, where and how did you go about getting a new door VIN sticker?

I'm way off from needing one for my project, but the sticker on my car was originally applied covering one of the latch mechanism's screws, so obviously to remove the latch mechanism I had to damage the sticker. A few years back I reached out to Galen Govier via his site asking his advice and never received reply.

As you know gathering parts and such along the way is major.

Thanks for any help on my question and keep up the awesome build!!!

Here is a link to a company that reproduces them, I am planning on using them but haven't yet so I'm not sure of the quality of there product

ECS Automotive Concepts - VIN DATA DECALS

I know Randy is working hard and making more progress and getting some parts painted inside, maybe he’ll update for all of you who have enjoyed his amazing build.

gtgto thanks for the link
Wow just now finishing reading this awesome build.
Keep it coming.
I ordered my door jam VIN decal this week and it got to my house in 4 days. Looks amazing. ECS is definitely the way to go.

Could you post a picture, of course with VIN covered? Is it a peel and stick? How much was it? Thanks

i went to the web site and printed the order form which said $55. Got the correct part number and called them. I think the guys name was Charlie, told him what I needed and he said $48 with tax. I paid and he sent me a receipt and I replied back with a photo of my fender tag. It was pretty painless. Here is a pic of it. Yes it is a peel off sticker
