Center console carpet

Hello folks, my dad has recently picked up a 68 gts 340 auto. We are redoing all carpets and the headliner and we are curious on how you go about putting the center console strip on. Does the console come apart or do you just pull the old one out and shove the new one in the grove then glue?

Console shell is one piece, just pull old carpet off, clean, glue and put new carpet on, groove doesn't do much.

Thank you Alan, will get around to it before the spring. What type of glue would you use? 3m 77 or 90 I dont remember what one bleeds through.
 
I tried to look before posting but I guess I did not word it right. Thank you dano for posting the links.
