CCW guys and gals- any good deals on firearms this week?

-
Many police departments abandoned the 40 caliber and went back to a 9mm. They now make some very impressive 9mm rounds.

There are quite a few 9mm rounds available, that's true. But a .40 calibre or the next smaller round, a 10mm...... Are more likely to put a bad guy down with fewer rounds. My youngest son works for a PD here in Texas and the decision to go from .40 calibre Glocks to 9mm was made by the bean counters. Not because the smaller 9mm round has better ballistics.

Following the changeover to 9mm, his PD had to revise tactics and training. Now they must fire quite a few more rounds to put a bad guy down and neutralize the immediate threat, so they are taught to move in closer whilst continuing to fire until the bad guy is down. That's why you hear the anti-gunners freaking out about PD firing so many rounds at a bad guy. They see it as overreacting. But its really because it takes more 9mm rounds to put them down now.

Best regards,

Harry

The S&W Shields are pretty hard to beat. Lots of options, or at least there used to be. I like the one with the .45 cal hole in the end. Much easier carry than my 5" 1911.
I've never had a 9mm but I'm tempted to try one of the compact CZ 75s if I could find one at a good price.

Rural King sent me an email and they have their shields on sale. Laser, knife, carry case, under 300.00 with mail in rebate.

Yes, that's a good price on that package. If it's the same package my LGS had on sale a few weeks ago, the laser is an integrated Crimson Trace.

Found it.

that's a good deal, but I don't know if the laser and the renewed trigger is worth the 80 bucks over the gen1

and I cant tell if that one has a safety or not, that would be a deal breaker for me

The deal is broken.
It said a manual safety in the ad.

For CCW I use a 9mm beretta nano. its fairly accurate and fast shooting for what it is.I went to a gun range and tested a bunch of sub-compact 9's, and it had the best grouping out of the bunch, although it does spread a bit if you spaz the trigger. With my gargantuan meat hooks it fired straight, the others pulled to one side or the other. With training I could correct that with the other guns, but lets be fair, sub-compact 9's are NOT range guns, they are 2 finger salutes to the bad guy at "bad breath" ranges. For a range gun I love my beretta 92fs...

come on, you expect me to read the add?

(and it actually goes the other way, I want a safety on it, because if I have a gun on my person, there will be one in the chamber)

Fire arms are ALWAYS loaded. Not carrying with a round in the chamber is about as short sighted as one could be.Second to that is carrying with the safety on.Both are assuming that their will be enough time to get the gun ready to fire when SHTF.The average self defense situation occurs at less than 10 ft and is over in 3 seconds MAX.If you think you will have time to rack a slide or flick the safety off during that time frame you are sadly misinformed. If your not mentally prepared to carry a handgun with a round in the chamber and the safety off you probably shouldn't even be carrying. Just make sure to use a good holster that prevents objects from interacting with the trigger until you draw.

Me too. I can flick that safety off faster and quieter than I can chamber a round. I’ve had my CC permit since 1985 but honestly didn’t carry till 2015 wend I started taking daily river walks. Dogs, coyotes, drug users twisted my arm. The piece I carried had no safety so I went without one in the chamber. Now I won’t leave home without the gun being ready to fire.

As several on here know I work at a rifle pistol range and have a bunch of NRA instructor tabs. I work as a firearms instructor. Also for game and fish, and our local parks and recreation depts, doing youth classes and Hunters Ed training. You think a CCW background is tuff, wait till you want to teach youth for the State! Hah! PS super glad state takes the background thing seriously for youth. I am happy to see so many on this forum passionate about all things firearms! I have carried many different rigs for EDC (every day carry) presently I compete, teach and carry a SIG P320. As always know your local laws and be smart when purchasing whatever you decide. Working hours and hours on a pistol range I get to see a lot of different equipment. Invariably the guy with the most stoppages and or malfunctions is the guy that got a great deal on this pistol (insert brand here) way below cost of name brand.

I treasure my body parts. Lol.

Me too, that's why I carry Condition zero. When things go bad, they can go bad quickly enough that there is not time for racking a round or fumbling for a safety, especuially if you don't train and get that muscle memory up to snuff.

My EDC is DAO so as long as I keep my booger hook off the trigger, I'm GTG.

I had an LCP in .380. Nice little carry gun.

I really liked my CZ82 but it was a bit heavy to carry. Good accurate deal, though. Very accurate and well made.

Now I'm looking for a sub compact .40. My arthritic paws can't handle any more power than that today.

I have a few rules when it comes to firearms . #1, Has to be American made . #2 Has to be affordable . Notice I didn't say CHEAP . I live 1/2 way between the Ruger factory and the Sig Sauer plant . Rugers are super reliable . Sig's are also but a bit more pricey . I carry a Ruger LC380 concealed . Sig P320compact open . The Ruger is super concealable and the Sig has the best trigger I've ever used . Take lessons , practice practice , it's a perishable skill . 380's are hard to shoot because they are light . 9mm are everywhere an ammo is affordable . WEIGHT IS YOUR FRIEND . Oh , get a good holster , not a cheap one . Makes the world of difference

Used to carry a Glock 22 but several weeks ago ran across the aforementioned S&W Shield 9mm for $269 out the door at a local gun show. Been thinking about a smaller EDC for a while and glad I bought it. Sweet shooter and much more comfortable to CC than a full-size. Another pleasant surprise was the $50 rebate at S&W when I went online to register it. And I don't mind telling you what I carry since you'll never know I have it until I have to draw it. :p
And I bought the Shield with the internal safeties like my Glock since I don't want to worry about working a safety off or chambering a round if TSHTF.

SIL is a LEO with a local county PD. They switched from 9mm to .40 around 5 yrs. ago and switched back to 9mm last year. He said it was because the smaller men & most of the women couldn't qualify with a .40 caliber.
