can it be done and how with what?

Well you could do what I did; leave the 7260 Ujoint on the rear of the driveshaft as a fuse.... but I don't recommend it. It didn't take long and my 367 heaved it's driveshaft out onto the road going into second.
I had one of those adapter joints back there 7260 to 7290 on the diff. Inspection showed that the 7290 seemed to be Ok so I rebuild the driveshaft, now with a 1350 on it to match the 1350 on the front behind the GVod. So now I run a 1350 to 7290 adapter, and that's been back there since about 2005? not sure, but a long long time.
But I confess, I took the CFII disc out at that time as well because it was just too harsh for a streeter. I swapped in a factory 340 disc, which became my new fuse, lol. And so, after blowing a couple of those out, and shredding a couple of A833ods, I reduced the clamp on the Diaphragm. After blowing another disc, I threw that Overdrive A833 out so I didn't have to split the gears all the time, swapping in a Commando box instead and stopped splitting gears at full power.
So in 5 or 6 years, the attrition was 3 transmissions, 4 or more discs, 1 driveshaft, 1 shifter, now on the third cam, 3 intakes, 4 carbs, 6 engine-outs,at least 6 different rear gears tried;2 of which spit off teeth,1 ignition system,1 driver's seat and a lotta tires. I think that about covers it.
All this with a little 367, 100% street-driven; I'm starting to think that I might just be the lousiest daymn mechanic I know. Car has gone 93 in the Eighth, with no track-tuning; on it's one and only successful run.
To be fair, since about 2007, the car has not broke anything; it's just really hard on tires; I buy them in bulk,lol..
