Anyone have any luck finding a modern replacement radio that fits the stock hole or at least doesn't require cutting the dash to pieces?

Nope. Modern head units are built to D.I.N. standards.
Aftermarket companies can but modern electronics inside the original radio. Retrosound maybe?

What car are you working on? Year, trim level, Reason I ask is I have a decent 67 Dart GT face plate that had been cut open for a modern (in the 70s/80s) 2 post radio If you have an unmolested and intact same and would want to trade I would be up for it. PM if interested.

I agree in the retro fitters as your best option, I think Classic and the like also sell radios that fit into the openings without cutting.

I have an aftermarket piece of crap from the former owner. He drilled and cut to make it fit but luckily it was narrower so a stock unit style with a bezel shoul hide what he did.

I put a Retrosound radio into my 65 Dart. It works ok but if I had to do it over again I'd have had the original radio retrofitted. There are many companies who add Aux input and bluetooth. That's all I need.

I don't have the original and the one I d ok have is junk and not aesthetically pleasing.
I know I'll find what I need.

I still have the original in my 66. It doesn't work (speaker is destroyed) I put a factory AM/FM in my Swinger. Not stereo and only the dash speaker but it works good. That radio would fit in a 65 I bet.

After reading many bad reviews on the retrosound radios, I decided to bluetooth my original AM radio. Cost less than $20 and looks completely stock.
No you cant play cd's or listen to the radio but honestly I only use bluetooth in all my vehicles anymore. I have 12,000 Mp3's on my phone so music selection is not a problem.

Have your stock radio retrofitted . If you don't have an original put out an ISO on this forum . someone has one reasonable .

Get an 80's shaft mount off Ebay. An old Sanyo, Pyramid, UNIC...wait, those are all swap meet crap. I have a Sherwood in there now and I didnt cut the dash but I had to cut the stock bezel (but I found another one). I had an old Sanyo tape deck that sounded like **** , I tweaked the azimuth and added an amp and that deck was the sweetest sounding cassette I ever had in a car, sizzling highs and that retro cassette noise in all the blank spaces. We put more money into the stereos back then than into the cars, but I was poor and made do.

I put a Retrosound unit in my '65 dart GT. Had to make an additional black filler around the buttons ( to fill small gap on dash face). (not in to mega sound) . It has quality dash and rear deck speakers. You have to look close to see the filler. Works for me.

Do you have information how to do it or who can do it?

I started a thread on here titled “Bluetooth Stereo”. another option using a small Bluetooth amplifier that doesn’t involve modifying a radio.

So it’s completely independent from the radio .. interesting

Is completely independent of the radio, so you could continue to use OEM AM radio and dash speaker if you want. You would just need to install additional speakers, which most do anyway.

The one negative to this is no FM radio unless you stream on your phone.

Here is the module I used. Put it in a stock AM radio and integrated the original radio buttons to work the bluetooth module.

I also added a amplifier module so none of the original radio electronics are used. It pumps a pair of 6x9's and the dash speaker pretty good.
If you really wanted to you can install a radio module too. No good radio stations around here anymore so I didnt bother. I hooked the bluetooth antenna to the cars antenna, it has good range.
