I have a 68 GTS H code 383,currently in restoration, should I use the electronic mopar ignition system or go with MSD

I'm not a big fan of Mopar electronic ignition. Got some dependability issues. If I had the choice I'd most likely go with MSD.

I am of the exact opposite!!!!

I have sent back several boxes over and over again that fail even after I send them back to MSD. One box went back 7 times (not my box) and my own personal box back and forth 4 times before I got sick of it failing over and over again. Been through the MSD tech the several times. They called me up and asked what’s going on. After going through everything with them, never suggesting anything but only agreeing with me on how the work was done, I just threw the box in the garbage.

How they stay (or stayed) In Biz is beyond me.
Junk junk junk junk junk junk junk
Complete crap on a stale cracker that a slug traveled over while flies were having sex on it.
GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAAGE

I have only 1 MSD (6A) box that has worked! And when that sucker fails, into the trash bin it will go.

OF ALL! the MoPar boxes I have owned, only my first box failed and none since then. All of my MP boxes are still in service. The youngest box (Chrome) has been in over 20 years.

And there may lay another issue as quoted above.
Recent boxes? Are they any good?
And who makes that reliable box?
I did use and like Don’s box from FBO @ 4secondsflat.com , zero issues with his stuff.

I have to admit that I've heard of some reliability issues lately with MSD, too. However, I have also heard that the problem is not MSD but MSD copies that are failing.

That may be, but MSD has had issues as long as I can remember.

One that really pissed me off was a bunch of miss labeled RPM chips. That one drove me nuts.

There is other issues as well.

Factory electronic for me since my first conversion almost 40 years ago. Throw an extra box in the trunk (that you'll never use) and ride. Avoid the orange box though!

You are 100% right Joe. Should have included that. That's actually the only box that gave me an issue. Thanks!

Restoration? points. And the bonus with the BB its pretty accesible.

currently in restoration
There is your answer. Go OE.

Also... lets say you decide to go to a car show a hundred or more miles away. And since you are on FABO your car can't be a trailer queen, so you are driving it. Now you are 175 miles from home and your ignition system craps out. If it is OE you can go to just about any parts store and buy ALL the parts to replace the entire ignition system including the dist. with MSD maybe you can get some of the parts.

Ill say it again: May Suddenly Die! 2 failed on me..2 many. Never had an issue with a 40 year old Mallory box. Big as a lunch box and all solid state. MSD copies are easy to spot {all have same serial number 682013, tach on left-mag input on right (reversed from real MSD), and use phillips screws on connectors NOT oem MSD TORX}, dont fall for an empty box with a single TO-3 Motorola transistor glued to the base or a Pro-comp clone with a small Bosch in-distributor board hot glued to top.

<<<throw a points distributor in your e-box in the trunk, you'll need it one day>>>

I would do a HEI setup. Google it up. Easy and inexpensive. Your Mopar will never run better. IMHO

What are your thoughts on this package

Then Summit Racing better be aware of from whom there buying from then.

I've gotta agree with the anti-MSD people. I figure if your box works good, you won't have an issue, but if you ever need to talk to tech support, don't. My box went back and forth 3 times with zero change, eventually I returned it to Summit, been running the FBO box since. Don's tech support has been fantastic

The only reason the "OEM" stuff you have works is this: "The youngest box (Chrome) has been in over 20 years". Anything made recently is pure junk from the Chi-Coms, or worse. I've been there, done that. And the Summit kit has the same crap Chinesium parts in it. Been using MSD stuff for the last 15 years with no problems, no failures.

**** parts stores are stocking less and less classic mopar parts like that. Want easy to get convert to Hei using a stick dist.

Still think pertronix is best of both worlds. Stock dist and trouble free performance

i like the mopar ECU box, not a powerful spark like msd of HEI but that damn thing keeps going and going! whatever you get keep a spare in car always!

Maybe, maybe not. I have some excellent working chink ****.

Good for you then. From my point of view, you have a good box. I had only one. It still works. 30 plus years? Long time......

It seems your saying that all ignition boxes are made in China and they all suck.

I have had better luck with chink ECU boxes than Chink HEI modules im talking 5 years ECU CHINK boxx verse 5 months Chink HEI.
