Mopar forever
I have a 68 GTS H code 383,currently in restoration, should I use the electronic mopar ignition system or go with MSD
That is what I use in my Mopars ,works great and looks stock.how original do you want it to look. how about the stock dist with pertronix in it?
I am of the exact opposite!!!!I'm not a big fan of Mopar electronic ignition. Got some dependability issues. If I had the choice I'd most likely go with MSD.
I have to admit that I've heard of some reliability issues lately with MSD, too. However, I have also heard that the problem is not MSD but MSD copies that are failing.I am of the exact opposite!!!!
I have sent back several boxes over and over again that fail even after I send them back to MSD. One box went back 7 times (not my box) and my own personal box back and forth 4 times before I got sick of it failing over and over again. Been through the MSD tech the several times. They called me up and asked what’s going on. After going through everything with them, never suggesting anything but only agreeing with me on how the work was done, I just threw the box in the garbage.
How they stay (or stayed) In Biz is beyond me.
Junk junk junk junk junk junk junk
Complete crap on a stale cracker that a slug traveled over while flies were having sex on it.
GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAAGE
I have only 1 MSD (6A) box that has worked! And when that sucker fails, into the trash bin it will go.
OF ALL! the MoPar boxes I have owned, only my first box failed and none since then. All of my MP boxes are still in service. The youngest box (Chrome) has been in over 20 years.
And there may lay another issue as quoted above.
Recent boxes? Are they any good?
And who makes that reliable box?
I did use and like Don’s box from FBO @ 4secondsflat.com , zero issues with his stuff.

Factory electronic for me since my first conversion almost 40 years ago. Throw an extra box in the trunk (that you'll never use unless its an orange box.) and ride.
You are 100% right Joe. Should have included that. That's actually the only box that gave me an issue. Thanks!fixed it for you. i've given my spare cheapo box to many people over the years at shows/cruises where their garbage *** orange box took a ****..
There is your answer. Go OE.currently in restoration
Then Summit Racing better be aware of from whom there buying from then.I have to admit that I've heard of some reliability issues lately with MSD, too. However, I have also heard that the problem is not MSD but MSD copies that are failing.
The only reason the "OEM" stuff you have works is this: "The youngest box (Chrome) has been in over 20 years". Anything made recently is pure junk from the Chi-Coms, or worse. I've been there, done that. And the Summit kit has the same crap Chinesium parts in it. Been using MSD stuff for the last 15 years with no problems, no failures.I am of the exact opposite!!!!

**** parts stores are stocking less and less classic mopar parts like that. Want easy to get convert to Hei using a stick dist.Also... lets say you decide to go to a car show a hundred or more miles away. And since you are on FABO your car can't be a trailer queen, so you are driving it. Now you are 175 miles from home and your ignition system craps out. If it is OE you can go to just about any parts store and buy ALL the parts to replace the entire ignition system including the dist. with MSD maybe you can get some of the parts.
Maybe, maybe not. I have some excellent working chink ****.The only reason the "OEM" stuff you have works is this: "The youngest box (Chrome) has been in over 20 years". Anything made recently is pure junk from the Chi-Coms, or worse. I've been there, done that.
Good for you then. From my point of view, you have a good box. I had only one. It still works. 30 plus years? Long time......And the Summit kit has the same crap Chinesium parts in it. Been using MSD stuff for the last 15 years with no problems, no failures.

It seems your saying that all ignition boxes are made in China and they all suck.
That’s the one I am using, has the later Mallory style advance which is nice for mechanical advance adjustment. I just recurved mine again with just one heavy black spring to see if it will be all in at 2800. 18*intial 16* mechanical 34* totalWhat are your thoughts on this packageView attachment 1715433078
