whats the torque specs for a 904 flex plate and torque converter bolts? this is a 1970

Tight! Sounds like you need a service manual. Download one from Mymopar.com I believe.

Flex plate to crankshaft bolts, red locktite and Ingersol Rand IR231C. Flex plate to converter bolts, red locktite and Snap On FAR72C.

mix it up.....well..I use blue and I dont torque the converter bolts either....lol

Reminds me of what I've been told about industrial plumbing fittings before. Tighten it until you see black (the point at which you pass out!)...

I tried to torque converter to flex plate once to 200 in-lb IIRC. Stripped out 2 threads in convertor; so put on red loctite until could fix it 4 yrs later when trany out. Since then use blue loctite and just titen by feel with short 1/2" wrench.

Loctite? Don't think I've ever used it on flexplate bolts, or convertor bolts for that matter. Maybe I've just gotten lucky. I pound the flexplate to crankshaft bolts with my impact, and use a box end wrench on the convertor bolts, being careful not to bust any more knuckles. LOL

I like red there. I don't slobber it all over. They say use blue on something you want to take back apart. Red is much stronger. I prefer red there........just don't use a pile of it.

Dr. Google brought me back to a thread here, (go figure) where barracudadave67 quoted from a '69 FSM that said 270 inch pounds (22.5 ft lbs) for the convertor bolts, and 55 ft lbs for the crank side.

I'm so friggen old there wasn't Locktite back then. You tightened them until they were tight. A little common sense goes a long way.

99 % of the time i am tightening converter bolts with 7/16 thread....not the 5/16 stock ones..

Tighten it until it breaks and back it off 1 turn. lol

Just for the OP's information, what torque spec did we find wrong in the manual. Like rocker arm hold downs or something like that. People were twisting stuff off left and right.

Yes sir. Almost all manuals have the rocker shaft bolt torque at 30 LB FT. It's 15-17.

this is what I've always done but since this was a ground up build thought I'd be precise.

LOL
