A brief history: My neighbor Larry Gray (age 75) passed away. He was a Pontiac fanatic. Over the years we shared tools, stories and advice, both automotive and family matters. Larry's knowledge of Pontiac products and lubricants was mind blowing to say the least. His last project was a '65 Pontiac Tempest with a 535 cubic inch all aluminum engine.

After Larry passed away, his family offered me his engine hoist which I have borrowed and used multiple times. Pictured below is Larry watching as my friends (one member here LilCuda) and I pulled the 383 from my '64 Dodge.

The engine hoist is of exceptional quality. It's unlike all of the Chinese garbage hoists I have used over the years. I'm inclined to say it may be American made. I can't find anything like it online. I would like to know what brand it is. There is a partial blue and white label on it. Look at the photos, how nice the welds are, nylon wheels, and the fact that there are pins with retaining rings used instead of the typical bolts. It's also a little smaller than other hoists I've used.

Thanks for the input!

Go to google and type in "pictures of engine hoists". It will give to a ton of them. Your looks similar to a Torin, but not quite right.

I will say that it looks to be at least 30+ years old. As most more modern hoist have some way to fold for storage and will have six wheels.

Yeah I've done that search. It's not a Torin, this red is more of a brick red. Torin products are a bright red.

It's possible it's even DIY. All the "traditional" jack makers are "suspect" such as Walker, Blackhawk, Hein Werner, Lincoln and other old names I've since forgotten

Google or ebay search "vintage hydraulic jack" and after you get a few brand names/ possibilities search such as "Blackhawk engine hoist", Blackhawk, hoist, etc etc.

I've seen one like that, but couldn't tell you where or when. The pivot is the giveaway that it is different.

I have a vintage hoist that I bought about 25 years ago. I would say its at least 50 years old and its built like a tank. I upgraded the wheels to large solid steel and it rolls like a dream on concrete. Nope, I wouldnt let it go for anything. You just cant buy stuff made like the old stuff.

OMC makes one very similar to that for about 4500 bucks.

The Blackhawk color looks to be a match. Thank you for the input!
