My home inspection of Speedmaster heads

-
lol looks like SpeedMaster/ProComp made a killin of the good men of FABO !
agree. I was thinking I was going to buy ProMaxx. I just wanted to see what the black Friday sale was this year, and at 40% I just had to pass on ProMaxx. ProMaxx did have 20% off, and if SM would have only been 30% I may have bought the ProMaxx. But it's here and gone......

Seems like the springs were 145# seat and 350+ at .500 and plenty of room to go .650 lift. I do.
I've put several 6500 rpm hits on them and everything is still in one piece.
No broken inners that you've noticed?

Right now I'm only running a 525 lift with 1.6:1 roller rockers and I don't make any more power after 55 to 5800 RPMs.. I've spun it past 7500 but it doesn't do anything but wear the out motor faster...
I don't see myself putting any kind of hurt on these heads..

It seems like after inspecting them you may feel good about your choice? Or even better...

Not yet. The weather is supposed to settle down some this week, and I planned on running the valves. I'll have to look.

yes, but the general message is the castings were good, so I wasn't surprised. ProMaxx numbers are a little better, but remember, the heads I'm running are stock 360 heads, so surely these will be a huge upgrade.

I should probably say !!
I bought the SM SS 1.6 rockers with my head purchase, and they're doing just fine!
There was a question about the quality of the adjusters by a buddy of mine, because of how they're made... What I did is buy push-rods long enough to keep as much of the adjuster inside the rocker, so that the adjust would be supported. No issues yet!!
I did find an assembly error however, concerning the bushings used. They weren't pressed in all the way, so everything bound up on the shaft. I made sure they were pressed in, and off I went !!

I'm starting to think my summer race Highmark might not stand next year..

spoken like a true intellectual !

I don’t know about that. I know I won’t put this much work into them

His mind in in a snow drift. high mark is what you do with a snow machine on a hillside.
And with 160 +hp direct Port injected 2-stroke 2cyl connected to a 162 inch by 3 inch lug 15 inch wide track I haven't had to turn around yet...

Ayup, your the one that starts all the avalanches
Hope you ride with a beacon.

That plus .005 on the one valve can be cause by a few things.

That valve job needed an extra .005 to clean it up, or the machinist just took an extra .005.

The valve face itself took an extra .005 to clean up or the machinist took an extra .005.

The stem didn't get faced off as much so it's .005 long.

Or it can be a combination of some or all of those. You can run it and never ever know the difference, or you can stem .005 off the valve, or you can go through all the work to figure out why it's plus .005 and fix that if it's eating you up.

Me? I'd run it. Except I don't like that valve job. There is no way I could run that basic seat. Other than that, I see nothing to make me nervous.

Great video. The only issue I have with the video is the dog didn't get near enough face time on camera. We need more DOG!!!
