Hey ya'll, I picked up a set of Doug's 453's for my 74 Duster with a 360 and 727 from Summit. Before I bought them I looked and read the 453's were the way to go. I SWEAR I read the Doug's 453s were the ones I need. Box finally showed up today and as I was looking at the paperwork I noticed it omitted my year (74) from the application year. Checked Doug's website, and nothing for the 74 Duster. Summit's website says it doesn't fit.
Did I **** the bed on getting the correct headers? I am sorry to ask ANOTHER header question but, I figured if any group of people could get me the straight answer in a timely manner it was FABO.

Thanks

Dougs website showed they should work for my car but Summit showed they wouldn't. I assume Summit was listed that way because there never was a 360 in my year. I called Dougs directly to confirm. Seems the easiet way.

Nothing I could find says they fit any A body past 72.

I swear I saw the 453's were the ones to get for a 74... apparently I need to lay off the post surgery pain meds..... The search continues.

RRR, would you by any chance, off the top of your head, know what headers I should go with? I found TTIs website and they are saying they have a set but I'd like to get actual users advice first

I don't "KNOW" that the ones you have now won't fit. I think you need to call Dougs and see what they say. I cannot imagine what differences between 72-76 would disallow them from fitting.

Yeah, I can't think its so different that it wont fit especially since I'm using a manual steering box. I guess I have a call to make. Thanks for the response.

In about 76 or 77,I bought a used 74Dart-Sport360 4-speed, with headers on it. I mightabin 3rd owner. So I know in Canada, at least, there was such a combo.
But IDK what heads were on mine. And I didn't have it long
I wonder if the difference is just the air-pump holes, under the exhaust ports, which you can plug.

I installed Doug 453 on my '76 Duster (360/904) this past summer with zero issues. I wouldn't bat an eye on them not fitting your '74

In 74 the 360 replaced the 340. It was available in dart sports, dusters, and various B & E bodies. Nothing really changed in the last few years of the A bodies that would prevent the headers from fitting. The floor pan changed in 75 for cataytic converter clearance but engine compartment should be dimensionally the same as say a 71. There were some steering linkage changes back somewhere around 67 or so. I cant think of anything else.

If you are using manual steering you can use Hooker 5204. That header fits and works.

There's nothing significantly different. The motor mounts changed from the biscut style to the safety bushing. Maybe the motor height changes 1/4". I'd just put them in, as others have said.

Called Doug's "technical support" and I asked the guy why the 453 say up to 72 but not 73 and 74 since there weren't any significant changes. He literally said, "that is the way the engineers designed them."
So.... you don't know the difference or where it would be an issue for 73/74 owners?
"yeah, they wont fit, because they weren't designed for it"
After I confirmed that I indeed called and was connected to Tech Support, I said thanks, Merry Christmas and hung up. Going to mount them and take FABOs word for it.

Thanks for answers gentlemen
