Hoping some members who know these part numbers a lot better then me can tell me what this manifold came off of, any help would be appreciated.

The way to tell if it is a 1970 production 340 intake is by the by-pass hose diameter. Aluminum water pump motors have a larger diameter by-pass hose then the early cast pump motors.post the measurement of the by-pass nipple diameter

Isn't that a Thermal-Quad intake? '71 or newer?

Someone can run that part number, but, the '70 340 had a carter AVS carb. My '71 340 Demon had a Carter thermoquad on it new from the factory, a spreadbore. Feel pretty safe in saying that is what it is.

Not going to argue when it was cast, but it would have been on a '71 or newer Thermoquad engine.

The casting number and date align with a 70 340 intake. It is not a Thermoquad intake. They look like this:

No it's not. While technically it is a spread bore intake as per definition, it's not the thermoquad pattern. It's for the Carter AVS that did have smaller primaries then secondaries, just not as exaggerated as the thermoquad.

Seeing this, I would have to agree with you. So, I don't remember my '69 340 intake having larger secondaries, did it? Or has the pictured manifold had its secondaries altered ? I ran a 440 AVS on my 340 with the stock intake manifold, the 440 secondaries are larger, but if you opened the throttle , it would just align itself. Oh well, just saying.
Thanks

I don't know what you had without a picture, but the manifold in question above is a factory unmodified piece. "I THINK" the 68 340 had symmetrical venturi and the 69 and 70 had the larger secondaries, then the 71-73 had the TQ. I do know "there was" a 340 intake where all the holes in the pad were the same, I am just not sure which one it was.

This guy has a pretty good list intake numbers, applications, and photos.

One year only 1970 340 intake from the casting number as many have already mentioned.

The comments about the 1970 340AVScarb having different size throttle bores is SPOT ON. 1 7/16" Primary 1 11/16" Secondary. It had a square bore flange on the carb with the intake opening too match throttle bore size.

Heck, look at the 273 manifold. Even it had smaller primaries and larger secondaries.

This is 68-69 340 intake. The secondaries are bigger. Doh

next to a tq I like the small primary large secondary even if I have to bore the manifole

Thanks for the information and discussion guys, always learning. I found a new home for it, Hemiorangeswinger (Randy) is doing a major restoration on his 70 340 Swinger and will be using this manifold on his car so turned out perfect and he's local so I can just drive it over to him.
