The other day I was steered in the right direction for the instructional video on the “how to site” for removing the outer shell of the lower control arm bushings. The video, by Jim Lusk, shows him using a 1 3/8”-6 tap. I had no luck finding a used tap on Ebay. New ones are astronomical in price. Locally I found one for close to $175.00, but at the same place I was able to buy a grade 8 1 3/8”-6 X 8” bolt for $17.00. So with my die grinder, belt sander and file, I made my own tap, that worked just fine.

1 3/8-6 tap | eBay

You didn't have any luck finding a tap, on ebay?
Why is that?
One vendor is selling them at $12.99.
Dirt cheap.
During the year i bought 2 from him.

But your method worked for you.
Give you credit for your ingenuity.
Clicked on your link...you must live in a different part of "the world wide web." I was on the "bay" last night for ever. Didn't see any of the ones that popped up on your link. I must of been pressing the wrong buttons. Live and learn! Now I have a "one of a kind, custom made 1 1/2 pound, 8 inch long tap." :lol:BTW: If I bought the cheapest one there, (your link) with shipping it would of been the same as the bolt I bought. Think of the enjoyment I got from making mine.

Very nice work and creativity maxed out

Nice work!

I bought a tap off of eBay to do mine like Jim suggested, it’s definitely the easiest way to remove the old outer shells on the LCA bushings.

Pretty cool trick using the bolt! Obviously I wouldn’t expect it to hold up as long as a tap, but if you’re only doing a pair of LCA’s like most folks it looks like it works pretty good!
