How to buy a 68 Cuda.

I paid $9600 for this 3 years ago.....
I've done a TON of work to it since....including buffing the paint back out (it didn't look this good when I got it.)

Notch-Back's are hard to find in almost any condition.....
$1500 is a pipe dream....not gonna happen.

That looks like a real nice car , it’s worth what you want to pay .

The offer is not insulting, its realistic. But just my opinion.
Your offer is not realistic at all. You have no earthly idea how hard to find , unique, and expensive barracuda specific parts are for 67-69 barracudas.

Exteriorwise, other than door handles, and windshield and vent windows, side view mirrors, wiper arms, and door and trunk locks, cowl panel, lic plate light and other misc small pieces, nothing else fits from any other A body. A barracuda has all its own unique exterior sheetmetal, bumpers, grilles , trim, tail lights, glass etc just like a 68-70 B body charger

Ditto for the interior. Dash is unique to 68/69. Sure 70-71 duster 340s and 71 demon 340s got the same dash. Unique interior sheetmetal, door panels. Rear seat that is notchback barracuda only. Dart and scamp rear seats do not fit. Ask me how i know.

What does fit sheetmetal wise from other A bodies. 108" wheelbase same as duster rolling chassis, duster floorpans, trunk floors, firewall, dart A pillars, dart cowl, and dart /duster rear inner and duster / demon /sport outer wheel houses, rocker panels. Framerails, well you get the idea. However rear trunk drop offs are unique to 67-69 barracuda,

There is enough unique sheetmetal and trim that does NOT fit from anything else, and can get very expensive to track down. I have a 67 and a 69 both notches, again ask me how i know.

Being that the car is a lower volume production compared to say a 68 dart, or 70 duster and i have covered which sheetmetal from other A bodies is the same and works on these, about the only unique to barracuda exterior sheetmetal parts you can buy as repop is , bumper brackets front and rear, bumper stabilizer side brackets, bumpers front n rear are same part number, front valance. Rear valance, and rear quarters.

Repop steel doors and door skins are not available. Neither are upper header grille valances, hoods, or front fenders or decklids. Some of that you can get in fiberglass, but that stuff never fits well unless you make it fit. Front fenders. Good luck finding good steel ones needing very little to no work. I have seen NOS mopar 69 cuda fenders sell for $1,200 a piece, because nobody makes them in steel. I saw a dude on fabo tig weld 5 good sections of different cuda fenders together to make 1 good one.

Taillights, and trunk trim is available, and very expensive. You can spend easily $750 on taillights new repop. Trunk trim is pricey based on year as well. And forget 69 grilles unless you want to spend an easy $2000 on a pair of really nice used ones. All new repop 69 grilles will easily fetch $2800 for everything. 67/ 68 headlight bezels are not repopped either. Good luck finding one undented. Theres a guy who redoes em but charges $375 each for 67-68 headlight bezels that have been restored, and more for the grille pieces.

All mechanical stuff from darts and dusters works like wiper motors, brakes, window regulators. Latches and the usual stuff like that.

Its basically the A body version of a B body 68-70 charger. Most pieces that make it a "cuda" are unique to it and fits nothing else.

Sheeeit a 70 duster or 68/69 Dart is easy to find stuff for compared to one of these. Id put those 2 in about the same league parts finding wise as an early mustang or camaro since theres almost everything repop for em.

Good luck.

I just sold my 67 fastback for $19 at the scrapyard

I just sold my 67 fastback for $19 at the scrapyard. Thats what 90% of em are worth once you dig down to the bones.
Yep if they are rotted to ****. However a duster is same wheelbase. Theoretically you can drop that cuda body shell onto a duster chassis and weld it together w a few changes like using the cuda cowl panel, and cuda trunk extensions. Otherwise it will drop right on.

And a vinyl top to boot...great place to be cancerous...1500 isn't going to get it. if it goes for 1500 the seller should be slapped...

Dash is unique to 68/69.

Actually, the '68 dash is different than all other dashes. While the Rallye dashes (Duster too) has a pad on the top, the '68 has a "wrap-around" pad that also makes the '68 ashtray unique as well.

It's really good at collecting dirt :BangHead:

Forgot about that one year only dash, however the pads and ashtray are the same as dart and valiant of the same year.

Can the OP close the loop on this? Did you ever call the seller and offer $1,500? Or did you not follow-up?

What really sucks is along with the '68 ashtray being deeper to meet the dash pad, it's also narrower so no other ashtray fits if you take the pad off. I had to chop up a "normal" ashtray to make it fit.

Looks like a driver mabey crawl under with a small screw driver check the usual places for rust those harsh prairie winters you know. What’s he asking ?
Yeah but if you poked a hole through the rot in my car, you'd have to buy it, "you broke it you bought it" :)

There's bodywork in the left fender, can tell by the pic...

Steve, U think he still has it a year and a half later? If I would of seen that back then I would of been all over it. $5Gs is a decent price. Kim

And by the way Fisher, I don’t advertise my 75 duster 360 with 41,000 original miles as most ppl say it’s too new and not worth anything. Kim

I realize its 1 1/2 year old thread, but we dont know what the asking price is/was??
I was hoping @Fisher would fill us in on what transpired?

I found a 69 convertible that is toast with no title and he wants $2500. !! Crazy yep, you can ask whatever you want, finding a serious buyer is another thing. However imo the car your looking at is worth more than $1500. in parts. I'm guessing 5k minimum for it.
