1965 Corvette vs 1970 Plymouth Duster - PURE STOCK DRAG RACE

-
Ha, "I love how much you guys love BBC's....uh..Big Block Chevys" 425 HP gross.

Not sure I like Dusters being compared to the filthiest minded porno "star" on the planet, or not. "So I've been told."

It's actually pretty tough to find any photos of her with clothes

Funny how the right lane seemed the better one yet the Corvette only got to utilize it once. If yall think a stock 340 Duster will whip up on a 425 HP 65 Vette every time, you're sadly mistaken.

Well I guess "it depends". Many stocker 'Vetts were pretty high geared. Maybe the 340 had 390's or whatever. Friend of mine use to have a 435 hp 6bbl. I would not screw with that LOL

The 425 HP 396 was a special package. It was the highest HP 396 there ever was. It would have and will eat a 340 Duster's lunch.

If it can keep traction. Both times the BBC lost, it was because he spun them.

Right and he lost both times in the same lane. Plus, the Duster was NOT sitting stock. Almost like it had SS springs.

...but the Duster ran the fastest time (of all three/six runs...) and was heavier than the Corvette by a margin.

Two 4-speed cars, similar weight...

Real life horsepower seems nearly identical to me.

My brother bought a new 68 SS Camaro 396 375 hp 4 speed that would not outrun my 67 GTS 383 727

I remember back in the 1970's when there was really alot of street racing going on where I lived in NJ, BBC seemed either ran very strong or most of the time like ****
and not much in the middle? Never had a BBC some friends did and they blowed up!

Corvette 3350 lbs
Duster 3400 lbs
Watching the video at 8:19 the Duster looks like it's sitting normal. It does have 4:30 gears though. Most annoying.... the guy describing the cars.

One "fast" 396 I remember from street racing days in NJ was a 69 Chevelle 375 HP that had a warranty replacement L78 short block. Most 396's, 325 and 350HP where
nothing to worry about.

I remember racing at Island Dragway thurs. nite grudge runs right after I bought my A56 cuda new and one of the first two cars I went against was a 68 Charger 383 and a 70 Chevelle 396 350. When I went thru the traps neither one were even close.

Years ago when street racing I used to pick on Corvettes because most folks thought they were lighter than my '62 Belvedere which they weren't. Would like to know where A56 came up with the weight number quoted for the 'Vette as it seems to low. While these discussions are fun, on any given day with a different driver, the losing car can easily become the winner. After bracket racing a bowtie and fixing on it after nearly every race weekend, I went back to my Mopar which proved to be more dependable in the face of repeated abuse. Granted other folks have likely had just the opposite experience with the two brands, but I've never been more content than in my non-rat powered automobile.

Back in the 70s street racing days I would hunt for 396 and 350s. Was never beat by any on the street using my 340 Duster or my 440 GTX.
Street raced a 454 nova and beat it bad. The owner is probably still in denial that a little 340 could beat his big block. lol
At the track I got kicked around by some. They out moneyed me and theirs were race cars not street cars.
It was a lot of fun back then.

right around the 10 min mark if you watched the video and my hearing is good, the enthusiastic talker said that the Duster weighs 3404 and the vette 3350 so that might be where I got it from. Check it out!
