Thoughts on this 318 recipe

Way to go Scott
Someone start a thread on Whiplash vs if they are interested
Hint It's ONE way to get a BIG intake lobe and still try and close the intake early
ONE tradeoff is lots of overlap, low vacuum- and all that
IMHO better off with a custom
That would be a good idea. I was comparing specs between the Whiplash and a Voodoo. Similar specs but a difference in C/L ans possibly lobe shape.

For everyone who didnt read the first few posts on this thread...specifically the the first one..THIS IS NOT A SMOG MOTOR. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1969 FORGED CRANK 318 NUMBERS MATCHING ENGINE FOR THIS CAR...that means advertised at 9.2......but it all boils down to 'how far down the hole". Again...we will see...if its .036ish, and the heads are truly 68cc...and if the creek dont rise...
And I am fairly certain. It's never been out. Hell it still has the numbers matching tranny.

Curious then why those who say they used this Voodoo cam say it has a smooth idle? The Whiplash is not smooth...not at all. Similar numbers? yes...same? No.

Ya I think the Whiplash is a "poser" cam. It idles like a top fueler but smooths out like grandma's slant 6 at about 2000 rpm. This guy put a Whiplash in his 318. (I don't know which one) Sounded mean but it wasn't fast so he built a 360. I love the lope of this thing though.

Turbos? Who the hell even mentioned turbos?
Scott mentioned supercharging in post 15
The thought crosses my mind every here and there to finish the 440 and sell it to add a torqstorm and fund a full 360 build.

This is a fun little project with the kids...as stated elsewhere if anyone cares to follow the whole thread....throw a thousand bucks at the stock teen...see what it does...I've got a 440 waiting in the wings...and may just skip that and step up to a hellcrate...
Yeah ok , yur talking in circles. you got this and you got that, and a mountain of money; but you can't see a 318 in a 4000 pound tank is gonna suck no matter what you do to it short of massive rear gears or supercharging which includes turbos.
Happy Hotrodding.

No sarcasm Scott
The LSA should be a result not an input
I've done many cams with LSA down to the 98 range
problem with off the shelf whiplash style (narrow LSA) cams is that they only work for a narrow range of builds
The big overlap gives all the big overlap problems of reversion and intake charge dilution, usually more EGT
it should as said above smooth out
but that bad *** idle is very inefficient and may be washing down the cylinder walls
best to do the full analysis before choosing any cam
longer exhaust is old school for stockish heads, etc
I like the shelf Lunati and Howards with a 16 in the comments column catalog showing .904 lifter (other grinders like Cran and Crower have them but harder to tell which is which from their catalogs)
RAcer Brown, Engle, Bullet, Crower, even Crane all have full line of .904 Hyd profiles
Comp and Isky not so much
different list for solids
Jones has the best HR and Solid Roller profiles
Let us know what you come up with on true compression
cheers

My 79 d100 is north of 4000lbs but moves around very easily 72-318 with .20 over Ross forged pistons for 10:5:1 compression forged 340 rods , forged factory crank , hv oil pump , 360 small valve j heads angle milled and lightly worked , rpm air gap intake , mopar recurved distributor , flow cooler water pump , 35 degrees timing , eddy 750 cfm, headers, 727 with 3000 stall , 3.55 sure grip rear ... dibt let anyone tell you a teen wont move a big car or (truck) in a hurry it's all about combination of parts...

Where's that darned video. Here it is:

didn't tony used cast pistons or those low compression pistons on that build?

the guys here give as good advice. You give Rusty, Rumble, & YR the idea that they can make money teaching their knowledge on youtube videos-we'll never see them again $$$
that would suck toolman!

Well this one hit wonder from Earth with 20 years of hot rodding experience currently A Private Pilot LOL hasn't had another post since.....

I've been busy. I'm at the adult romper room. And I'm waiting on a guy to help me with my distributor machine.

And this Airline Pilot...has been in and out of the hospital a few times...so...theres that.
Hope you're doing better.
Pay no attention to the banter, some of these guys use voice command , the jaws flap and the web picks it up. lol

You said;
Hey all...been amassing parts to wake up my 1969 318...love to hear your input.
Yes...I am fully aware of everyones opinion being everyones opinion.. so I will take no butt hurt from the responses
, and everyone who says Stroke it or throw it away and start with a 360...yall can just zip it. This is low buck...some left over parts, some used, the rest discounted or severely discounted.
..runner or dog?
Thanks

Sorry I hurt your feelings

AND NEVER RIGHT, but how would you know

EXACTLY. Your timing light, at best, is a fibber. They junk ones flat lie.

You can't see with a timing light what you can see with a good distributor machine, and mine will test most anything including full ignition systems, ignition boxes by themselves and even magneto's.

I’m glad to hear you found some help with that one, I’ll have to look at it on the thread you had started.

Lololo! I had forgotten where it's at too but hopefully you'll be able to show us the updates as time and life allows.
