Hood Hinge fastener help needed

Ok, you answered my question. Fenders are off. My thought was just as in post # 8.
I am about to try this with the fenders ON. I have a new 12" x 1/8 drill bit, but have not yet removed the splash shields to see my future job.
I am going to try to put on a set of light weight hinges for my glass hood with the fenders on.

Take the splash shields off.
Go down to the hardware store and snag a couple of "push nuts" I don't recall the size
Out one on the stud and take a socket that fits the outside shape, and then with a hammer you can tap it on.

I've done this multiple times on my 70 dart. The fenders don't need to come off.
