Well...i am doing what i said I would not do....

Talking to a friend about weight...he suggested light weight disc brakes for the front...so i searched on the internet....i got strange on the other cars...but they are 850 bucks...
Found a set of Wilwood medium duty for cars up to 2800 lbs....well...I wish...but our shut area is up hill...lol....
got a 3 per cent discount for 1st time order...plus no sales taxed.....piss on summit and jegs....and free shipping.....$602 .....and I just got that Visa card paid off...LOL...
 
Waited a month for that order from a company I have never order from...cancelled the order.....went to Jegs....used one of their coupons...and order the Strange brakes.....they arrived today.....probably not going to be installed for a few months,,,,,still need to drop those heavy *** bumpers....soon...soon...lol
 
Duster been sitting in trailer for 2 months now....had to move it out of the garage....turned on fuel pump and got 2 fuel lines leaking....Sob...gremlins ...and i had the doors locked....anyway could not get them stopped so i pushed it out...and fired it up drove it a short distance and parked it...need to add new hoses to list....driverside rear drum brake looks like it leaking fluids....LOL...got new disc brakes in boxes......work..work work...
 
Just replaced all my fuel lines with Teflon and new fittings.... being the stuff had been there since the mid 90’s had me thinking....
 
Maintenance
Can’t afford it but can’t live without it.
That reminds me, I gotta order a few fire extinguishers.
 
hose is fairly new....just a bad fitting......got some new hose....and new fitting for it....
going to pick up the fiberglass front bumper on monday for it.....
 
ok....working on this car for a few days....
replaced the two hoses that were leaking,,,,fired up....then it died...rear float stuck....ok...plugs out...cleared engine...fired back up...adjusted float again...

drove it into the garage.....

Car is going to get new front and rear strange disc brakes....
car is in lighten up mode.....

ordering light weight front bumper brackets to get rid of the heavy *** bumper shocks and heavy *** front bumper....
 
Got the front brakes almost done....waiting for brake lines tomorrow...plus need to final adjustment on the caster nut....

but i get to take them apart tomorrow...as I was reading the instructions...mostly...i failed to see the directional arrows on the rotors.....need to flip flop them....

Got a late start this after work....got the front brakes corrected...and adjusted the caster nut and done..

Got one side of the rears completely done....rear is a lot simpler....the only fly in the ointment are the brake lines i ordered from summit.....coming from Ohio store instead of Reno store....so they wont be here until Friday......
got other things to do for now...

Got the rest of the brakes done tonight.....fixed the header leak....and now changing the oil cause the flood stuck open and the oil smells like ethanol........
 
Front brake line hoses just showed up.....dam....pretty much killed the chance of Brown Dirt Duster making it out....

I want to change transmission lines going to the cooler...at least the last 2 ft on each line.....
 
Did some work on this thing today....got the brakes bled and the pedals is hard as my......

Torn the front end off it....was not my intent to do today but got on a roll....that bumper is heavy....lol

my daughter keeps telling me that my day job interferes with the racing ...that i need to retire.
 
got the bathroom scale out in the garage....

Stock front disc brakes...... 78 lbs
Stock rear drum brakes 54 lbs

Total 132 lbs

Strange Front Disc Brakes.......,,,32 lbs
Strange Rear Disc Brakes 30 lbs
Total 62 lbs

Weight saving 70 lbs plus alot rotating weight


stock Front bumper 65 lbs
Bumper Shocks 21 lbs

Fiberglass bumper and aluminum brackets 4 lbs

Weight Savings 82 bs

Total weight saving so far...........152 lbs.....
 
weight saving on the hood.....

approximately 40 lbs........

weight saving on the rear bumper

approximately 80 lbs

Another 120 lbs total..

So over all the car should be lighten up over 270 lbs.....
 
That i dont know.....but I should be able to back up the weight once i get it back to the track.....knowing what i took off .......
 
got all the parts laid out for the new front end....need to do some cleaning and a little sanding before hitting them with some spray paint....

Looks pretty easy to convert....need to make and weld a tab onto the fender and that is all ....got some aluminum brackets coming for the bumper....should be pretty much done by this weekend...
 
Getting back to working on the front end of this Duster......made and welded on a tab on the fender for the upper grille support....and got the lower one installed..

I am waiting a on 71 Duster Grille kit....screws and plastic whatevers...lol...
