Are you going to paint the engine red like you did the N/A engine you had in there?

It was actually jaw droppingly beautiful with all that black and the red engine in there.

Don't get me wrong. It looks damn nice right now. I just remember how that engine bay just POPPED when the engine was red.

Very cool either way.
 
Man wish I was that far, just need to get back over to the car and work on it, still at my parents house from moving.

I feel like I’m miles away still but this is a huge step in the right direction. It’s been sitting since 2016! It’s been way to long. Get over there and make some progress I’d love to check it out sometime!

Yes, the engine is going to stay red. I liked that idea because that’s the original engine color, it was orange once and it was fine but I like the red and it’s “period correct” for what that’s worth haha.

I will, just been busy settling in the new house and need to build a fence since the old one was done very crappy. I have most of the pieces just need to lay them out and see what I need to do for off the turbo part.
 
Ok guys it’s been a while so I thought I’d play catch up. The valiant is all wired and I’m working on a short list to be able to fire it up. I’m hoping in the next 2-3 weeks it will be running in the car and then 4-5 weeks to take it for the first road test. I’ve got all the exhaust wrapped, mounted and plumbed the catch can. Working on having a fuel regulator bracket cut out and then I can finish the fuel lines.

Thank you, at this point I’m just going to run it where it dumps and enjoy the car. I will look into an exhaust system out the rear of the car in the winter probably.
 
Well with the beer virus right now work has been slow and I’ve been able to spend a little more time on the valiant. Got it fired up today for the first time! I’ve got a lot of details and fine tuning to get started on but it’s getting pretty close! Hopefully I’ll take it for the first outing in about 4 years next weekend!

Don’t know how to post any videos so pictures will have to do. Just have to mount the battery and the coil then I’m ready for the first road test. Gotta do some more trimming on the hood too.

Hmm brings up a good point/thought. In a blow through carb setup the latent heat of vaporization pulls enough heat out of the charge to not need an intercooler with moderate boost levels. I wonder if the same effect happens through a fitech. It is still wet flow.
 
Well I’ve made some progress. Figured out a major cooling issue got about 60 miles on the build and now looking into a new issue. Lol. I knew I was going to be learning a lot on this project and knew that I would likely be learning some things the hard way. But didn’t think I’d run into something so quick. ‍♂️ After a couple test drives I had noticed that I was getting smoke/steam out my catch can. I inquired about it on a Facebook page I’m on (RWD Boosted Mopars) and the responses were overwhelming that there was a problem. So I decided to start looking into possible problems. I disconnected my catch can to see what I would find and it wasn’t what I expected.... about a half a cup of water. So I started with a compression test, all cylinders were between 130-150 a little more variant than desired I know. I pulled #6 plug out and noticed the rust color on it and suspect this is where the issue is. At this point I drained the oil (a little milky but not really bad) and drained the water. I’m going to do a leak down test, re-torque the head and do another leak down test I will keep you posted to what I find. I started off with a 6 lbs spring in the wastegate so I can ease into everything and now go crazy right off the get go. After a couple test drives and getting the cooling issue figured out I was able to go for a long enough drive to get some data. Well AGAIN looking at the data I found something I was NOT expecting! During one of the test drives I got after it a little hard and found that it produced 23.5 lbs of boost
So how in the world am I making this much boost with a 6 lbs spring in the wastegate?

Maybe boost creep due to the waste gates take off angle? Most get it when waste gate is not at the right angle off the feed, thinking since yours is 90 degrees might be the cause. Boost creep is a condition of rising boost levels past what the predetermined level has been set at. Boost creep is caused by a fully opened Wastegate(s) not being able to flow enough exhaust to bypass the housing via the Wastegate(s) itself. Just shooting out ideas

well ****, I think your pretty spot on. I can’t believe we didn’t catch that during the build.
 
Hate to see you have to redo the wastegate, you did such awesome work on this set up. I'm betting you can use the same hole just oblong it and smooth the transition pipe to the gate. Course that changes others things that need to be welded up again.

yeah I had a friend do the fab work on it. He’s always super busy might be difficult to get it back to him soon. Maybe I will just have to do it over winter. That would be a good time for him to add in a air to water intercooler!
