From what I've been reading, this is exactly correct. The 5.0 lever can make the 2-3 overlap a pronounced issue. If you look at the big names well built and competition 727 builds, they are all 4.2 levers included, no 5.0's.
I have also read and been told that the number of return springs in the high gear clutch affects the speed of apply and gives more time for the band to release.
Trans go has also told me that the dual sealing ring servos common on the aftermarket also slow the release of the band aggravating band overlap.
