Hood lock suggestions

-
I’m like AJ. I don’t lock any of my vehicles. My 64 Valiant has a supercharger. It has a Alpine head unit in it as well. It looks like a daily. Steelie wheels all around. If they want anything they can take it but it won’t leave easily as it takes a minute to start the Valiant.

I was looking for a thread about remote latches. I know there is some info her on FABO from those that have modified theirs. I don't know what year and model could be used. Maybe something from a M body? The hood latches may be very similar. I know the trunk latches are similar. I hooked a electric latch to a remote transmitter on my Swinger.

Common to find the parts on mid-1970s A, B & C-bodies.

And as far as shootin' folks go, thieves are opportunists & therefore should be regarded as targets of opportunity. ;-)

So I am cruising around fabo and I see an ad for an air cleaner and the going price is 5 bills. This is not the first time I see an original air cleaner get big dollars.

As the value of certain engine parts keeps going up, so does the paranoia of them walking away.

Does anyone lock your hoods down??
I have never had a problem with stuff walking away but I'm not waiting for it to happen either.

Every inside hood latch assembly I have encountered is junk and I still don't think that ideally secure.

What suggestions are out there??
yeah, I've heard of AAR/TA air cleaner assemblies being lifted, back in the day. And like you, I've wondered about securing engine compartments given the cost of replacing one of the more desirable air cleaners. It makes sense to not make it easy for scumbags, but I think it has to be reasonably efficient for you as well. An inside hood release sounds good, and/or a hood chain doable.

I was thinking of an electric lock, but what happens if battery goes dead? Could easily happen on cars not driven every day.

Interior hood locks are definitely the way to go. Unfortunately, though, most security measures are only going to keep honest people from messing with things they shouldn’t. The best security system I’ve ever seen was a local gun dealer/gun smith who made rattle snake skin crafts and items. When closing, several snakes were set loose inside. Posted on the sign on the door. Made opening the store back up somewhat “interesting”... only gun shop in the area never broken into

I put these of my Dart for when I can finally take it out and able to lock it down.

I have not seen those before.

What happens if the screws are removed?

The lock rod is still attached to the pin which is bolted to the area by the hood bumpers adjusters.

Interesting. Any photos of the underside & pin?

Just have this one of the pin, don't have one of the hood where you can see clearly but its just a hole. Can get one next time I go over to my parents house, haven't brought the car to our new home yet.

Junkyard dog chained to the front bumper works especially well, too.

Here is a Remote Hood Latch assemblies that came off a 75 Valiant. Pretty sure the Beak cars 73 to 76 had them, might need to modify just a tad for the earlier hoods. Should bolt up to the core support, latch support bracket though.
