How to Rebuild a Small Block Part 1: Block Prep

Krazykuda Thanks so much! This is awesome and super useful info that is hard to find in one place. I appreciate the countless hours of expertise that has gone into and all the time invested in sharing this info!

Wanted to add a note that may or may not be trivial for other members- made my heart skip a beat so thought I would just put it out there.

I was looking up the info for my car on the chart you included: VEHICLE ID PLATE INTERPRETATION and while reading the ENGINE DISPLACEMENT section I an anxious moment...
The chart shows my car's vin decoded as a "400 4Bbl Highperf (68-78)" -it has a "P" in the fifth place of the vin.
Since I believed I had a 1968 Plymouth with a 340 4Bbl Highperf. ... So, either something was wrong with my vin tag or the chart- or just maybe I had a unicorn on my hands?...lol.
I did a cross check with an original 1968 Plymouth Service Manual and on page 2 confirmed the "P" in the vin's fifth digit is indeed a 340.
