Refreshing 360 after 10 years....

Motor and trans hooked up.....trying to drop it in tomorrow after work......

2 30 PST ...do you know where your engine and trans is?

The headers and trans below needs to be hooked up....tomorrow is another day....running tomorrow or Saturday

Engine bay needs a good cleaning too...

way too many times....for several years we had no problems...but now...i am getting killed...and i am not a young man anymore...but refuse to slow down...
 
Well....it fired right up yesterday but having some small issues...most self inflicted ...lol....did not put the fuel pump block off plate on....oil splatter...fixed...

One tight exhaust valve...fixed.....I dont like the balancer that is on the car....it will be swapped out in a day or so...
Going to adjusted all the valves again in the morning....

Then the transmission **** ......it goes thru the gears.... put it in reverse hit button back up very weak....
put it in first hit the button ....brake does not work...god dam..

Saturday ...I told Tonya that Monday I was to call and buy a transmission.....tired of this crap...
So she said...lets drop the pan...ok...no harm no foul.....drain pan...drop pan...she wants to take valve body out..ok
well...bingo....she points out something that is causing the problem...

Rear band adjust is stuck on valve body....rear band servo can barely engage band...adjust so far off....that transmission guy is going to get fired again...
we get the valve body out of the way...air test the servo...it works ok.....i go to adjust the band...it is 7 turns out...WTF....
So the book says 4 turns with the double wrap band...my friend who does trans sets his at only 2 turns...i check one in the other trans and it is very tight....
so I split the difference at 3 turns...but will confer with the trans experts on monday...lol

Will adjust valves in morning...sure glad the 49ers got the bye week.

We noticed on another valve body there was spot of it where the adjuster was rubbing on it also......so maybe 4 turns out is too much,,,,,
 
Swapped out the balancer...and adjusted the valves...mp590 cam...i had them a little tight....got them set at .024 intake and 28 exhaust....suppose to be 28/32

This is not the valve body that is in the car...but it is doing the same thing....you can see some marks on the valve body...did not get a good photo....but with the band adjusted correctly it should be no problem...

Actually called and talked to Joe at Tranzact today....He said double wrap band is 4 turns out...dont want the reverse band too tight....

Got the transmission all back together....

did a finger compression test on the engine......every cylinder sounded good...my finger liked the new shinning holes....lol
spun it over...watched all the valves going up and down....
poured the tranny fluid back in......or gender neutral fluid ...
will get plugs back in tomorrow ...and running again...

then it is time to use the old HF tire machine....going to get my daughter on that...since she is the one who flat spotted all 4 tires...
 
Wow!! You find the strangest things... how could this have NOT come up before?? Think I’d still clearance that area some.
 
ok....fired up....reset timing....let it warm up.....

Reverse works...and so far transbrake works.....

tomorrow we start on tires....
 
Took last night off...one our little dogs past away at home .....Rex...16 yr old Chihuahua...

Got over to the garage tonight ....kind of sat under the car and looked at things i wanted to fix or change before the season starts in a few weeks....made a list...and checked it twice...

Got the front tires off the car and mounted the new tires on the rims....l love that old HF tire changer....probably as good as the one we had in the gas station i worked in back in 71-73....lol...
tomorrow i use the HF bubble balancer.....

and need to move on to getting the slicked R and R....
Going to redo the pan evac on the car...then wash and load into trailer...TnT Jan 18 and 19,,,,,,
 
Got the slicks removed and remounted ....will balance them in morning....

amazing what you can do with that old HF tire changer....lol
 
Ok..i think it is ready to be loaded in the trailer tomorrow.....got all 4 wheels balanced and back on the car....reworked the pan evac system.....new one way valves and breather from Moroso...had to do some cutting and welding .....done..
 
Car is loaded in the trailer.....

We did some reorganizing of stuff inside the trailer....i picked up a nice storage cabinet and we got things alot more organized..
