66 Dart Owners thread

-
Hey guys, it's been awhile since I posted. The Dart is still in Arizona waiting for me. Hoping to bring it up to Denver this summer.

I need to source a car cover that will fit nice and protect from all-weather. Any suggestions?

Also, I am still hoping to source quality used or new-in-box wheel well trim. Additionally I'm looking to replace the seat cover material at some point in the near future and need to source the material set, in the gold color. Anyone have any leads on either of these?

A wanted ad would be your best bet. I bought a car cover from Classic Industries that fit very well. As far as the wheel opening chrome, no aftermarket made. It will have to be good used. The fronts are 66 only and the rears can be 64-66 GT from what I understand. Start a wanted thread here. You might have to piece a set together. I bought pieces to complete mine and one is far from perfect. Good luck.

I have had the experience that car covers do not protect cars from the elements. anyone else have better luck with covers on their cars?

If you own a 66 Dart please respond to this post. There seems to be a lot of us here lately. Post your favorite photo of your car too. toolmanmike

Iv'e been thinking, does anyone know the total 66 dart production numbers and the prod numbers breakdown for the 3 classes? Is this information online? I've also been curious how rare is was that my original owner had the dealer locate the 3-speed column shifter.

I have a breakdown in a Galen book. What combination do you have?

GT, 225, 3-speed column shifter, factory air. Am I missing anything that would be helpful in understanding if mine is more or less rare?

66 GT with a 225 and a 3 speed. 619 US production. There's no breakdown for Ac or any further accessories. That's pretty rare. My 273/4 4 speed is one of 1237 which is still limited for sure.

Thank you very much Mike! Interesting info, super surprised only 619 GT 225/3spd 66 Darts were produced. In your opinion does the 3 speed as a column shifter hurt the value? I have yet to see another 66 with a column shifter. Would that have been a dealer option only?

I don't believe they had a floor shifter so column shift was the only way to go. I had a 65 Dart with a HP 273 and a 3 on the tree. Just a hand full of those built
.

Well I think I can finally post some pictures of my car. Have been working on it for the past 3 years.. Here we go.... First photos from were I bought the car... Last pictures of how it looks now.... Replaced floors, quarter panels, complete cowl hood, left inner fender, straightened everything out, I did the whole interior (bought seat covers) , rebuilt a 1981 318 engine and put edelbrock intake and carb, rebuilt transmission, all new brake lines and brakes, new fuel tank and lines, painted the interior (car was painted not by me). All I need is a back glass to get it done..

Thank you Mike,,, I did all the body work, interior and mechanical myself including replacing the cowl hood which was a pain and took me a long time. The only thing I did not do was painting the exterior. All done in a small garage in my Condo..

White with a red interior. Probably my favorite combination.

That is the way it was from the factory. All the chrome is original.. I put 2 inch memory foam on seats. They are very comfortable..

Great idea. You must be pretty handy at straightening and polishing that crome. It looks great.
