I met a guy today locally who wants to buy my iron super 6 2bbl intake manifold and I really have no idea what to charge him. Do you guys know what these things are going for these days ? I don't want to under or over charge him , Just want a fair market price with a Carter 2bbl from a 65 273 thrown in for his 225 slant in a 65 barracuda.

200-250

That's ^^^^^ about right. There some on eBay higher than that.

Shew! 1997 was too long ago, when I bought one for $100.

In about the mid 90s,
I bought the whole dang 77Aspen car with the SSix, A999,diff and a oil-burning core engine, all for $200; AND, drove it home! And it all went into my mint body 1980 Volare that I had just purchased for $100 with a blown engine. Ah those were the days.
Well the engine got built first... and then the auto, and then I found out the diff in my Volare was broke. And then I did the suspension, steering and brakes. And then I gave it a paint-job. And then I had a 15 year old New Car!, that I then drove another 20 years, with nothing but normal maintenance, oh yeah.
I still occasionally drive her around the block.

I got one from a member here for a great price. It's the aluminum one that had trouble with the porous welds. I smoothed the welds down with a dremel and sandpaper wheels. Then I went over them with a 2 part epoxy and smoothed it all out good. After that, I primed hell out of it with high build primer and then sprayed it with a VHT black metallic speckled paint. That sumbitch AINT gonna leak. Although it probably didn't before. lol

It's not a $200 intake

Oh rilly? Y'sure? Because here's three pieces of very fresh evidence that…um, like…yeah it is.

This is not 1990 any more, when you couldn't swing a dipstick in a wrecking yard without hitting at least three Slant-6 cars. The newest vehicle factory-equipped with a 2bbl intake on a Slant-6 engine is most of 40 years old, and most of them no longer exist.

Sad ain't it?

Is it? I donno, that kinda depends on whether you have one or you want one. How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door you're on.

I just meant all the old cool stuff completely disappearing.

Makes me feel like it was a lucky break to catch the one I got.

I'd rather stick to the 1 brl aluminum hogged bigger, webber carb or fi, header, late model 5 spd....port the head and use a isky 242 adv dur cam. That's the realm that engine was designed to live harmoniously in. Imo

Probably so. It pisses me off more people don't try to specialize in older car salvage yards. nobody cares anymore. It's all about the almighty dollar.
Its 50 yrs later, no more 9ld cars to fill one at the rate we are restoring, chopping up donor cars, the Obama years and all the recycling going on... old yards that everything gets rained on can only keep the inventory as long as its usable...once it goes past usable or close, its scrap time or you lose a lot of money...and or the inventory still rots

Yeah that cash for clunkers crap really put a dent in us. I remember the article in Hot Rod magazine where they ran down to a local yard to get a 67 Camaro. 6 cyl car but it was straight. They couldn't get it because of the stupid law. It got crushed. Hot Rod wrote a really nasty article about how messed up the law was.

There is a lot of false info about the 'cash for clunkers' program. It only applied to cars that applied and got the federal rebate. It only applied to the engine and cat converter and possibly the engine computer. Selling the starter and alternator would be ok. The bone yards would have to pay somebody to remove the engine and cat, so for them it was easier to crush the whole car.

I think it was a good idea at the time. More old gas hogs off the road, many of them needing repairs. Had an 60's Olds 88. 425 V-8. Averaged 12 mpg. Worse in winter. Took a long time to warm up. But you could go shopping for a couple of hours and the heater would pour out hot air real soon.
12,000 miles @ 12 mpg = 1000 gallons
12,000 miles @ 24 mpg = 500 gallons [smaller car]
500 gallons times $2.00 per gallon = $1,000 saved

The big crushing took place some years later when the price of metal skyrocketed. Older cars weighing ~4,000 pounds were getting $400 at the boneyard gate! And that is with the tires and gas tank in place.

I think you're right somewhat. But there was a flip side as well. There are lots of youtube videos showing where the yards put that "engine blow up" mixture in the engine of an otherwise decent car and just let the engine run until it slung a rod. These were cars that could have been donated to Goodwill and the like for needy people who otherwise would not have a vehicle. It really sucked to see that happen. I saw it here first hand at a local yard. Once those cars were in, no parts were sold and no cars were sold. The engines were destroyed and they were crushed. Some of them were pretty good cars too. But I do agree the program had its good points, although I believe were fewer than the bad.

Well, we're on the side of the bathroom door that needs the parts.

Texas is a big state, huge. Hard to find any old yards, especially these that specialize in such. There is one up near Wichita Falls, He has pics on FB every week showing his latest old junker hauled in. Cool place and owner. Browne's, Sunset, Tx.
I admit I get sorta bummed now days , because I love the hunt for decent projects at the price I feel a project is actually worth. I can't keep them all, so I have to not be in one upside down when it needs to find a new loving home!! Like all us old guys I remember the days of big old yards full of old cars, cheap parts and projects.
I have always lived NOT where the population is and thus lots of people and cars. Back East there are lots of old cars, but the RUST!!! Lots of people and parts, but you guys are 1000 mi away!!! ha
Super six setups I say worth $250-350 if complete with all the brackets, kickdown. Last one I got came off a junker pickup for $75 but it was not in a boneyard.

I had one on Craigslist about 5 years ago for 20$ took about a month to sell. Dude in SD bought it and paid 80$ ship it. I didn’t realize they were worth anything I got it for free and it had been holding my shed door open. Dustin
