Carburetor Question - Is this a good call?

I just went thru this exact thing. Off the shelf Allen head cap screws WILL NOT work with that plate. You need the short head Allen screws. Hard to find locally, fastenal doesn’t stock them either.

also, I found the only adapter to that works is the 4G to Holley adapter sold by Speedway Motors. It lines up perfectly and clears the throttle blades where others , you have to grind the openings to match the intake.

also, do not get the one that has the WCFB pattern, you don’t need it, and those four extra holes will pool gas. And leak. Been there.
I’ll find the link shortly to what I ordered. It was 14.99 off speedway and came with all the studs and bolts and gaskets needed.

Good to hear someone else has gone through this. I'm surprised Holley doesn't build this themselves.. PS I found a Carter AFB i'll get just to have cause its close and cheap and keep it in plastic in case i say "F THIS" and throw the Holley in the trash.. but if you knew me (and you guys are figuring me out pretty well so far), you'd know this is a puzzle and it MUST be solved. I won't ship it to a shop, and when it fires.. man.. that'll be a car-gasam for sure.

One nice thing about Mcmaster is they often supply drawings if you dig down into the product details.

I work in industries that deal with drawings like this all day long. I love that they supply that - this i can relate to.

this is what I did. Ordered them from McMaster Carr. They were 1/4-20 if I remember right, 3/4 inch long

Hey @dukeboy_318 - did you have to order those screws for the correct plate you linked to above? OR the ones that came with the kit are ok..? once i hit "post reply" i'm calling Speedway and seeing if they can just supply me a set of screws since i already have a plate. BUT like you said.. the holes may hold gas etc.. i'll see what they can do since i already gave them money once.

Thanks Chris.
I can see in the photo that a depth measurement for the screw head is needed.

Yup. and as you can see my stupid Holley has no external sight plugs or otherwise to adjust the floats.. annoyed.

yeah,,,,, easy for us that know, isn't it though?? But he don't know, and he is willing to learn. Always harder to help somebody over the computer than in person. IF I was there, it'd been done in 10 minutes. But I'm not. I know, you wanted him to go grab a eddy..... lots of cooks in the kitchen. LOL. I applaud someone for trying, and he's trying.

I applaud him as well,he is trying. We all had to start somewhere. I really am pulling for him, and hope it works out.

Thanks guys - the learning curve is strong here.. haha.. But after all the help here and the numerous videos and messings with; i feel like i know so much more than before. And @Johnny Dart - i'll shoot you a call this weekend when i can get back on it. I may order the bolts listed above, but I want to check some supply stores nearby my work (which is a very industrial area) before i jump on it (as well as call Speedway).

Happy Monday all.
