Im planning on upgrading stereo which includes rear speakers. I went to stereo store and installer said he would install boxes that could fit between seat bottom and side panel. Im thinking 6" round.
Anyone got pics of their setup?
Wasn't sure whether to post here or in electrical. Move if it makes sense.

Thanks
Steve

I don't know if I have a picture of them, but for years I ran a pair of off-the-shelf Pioneers that were intended to be rear shelf mounted. They were 3 speakers in a long rectangular housing, somewhat wedge-shaped from front to back. The woofer was probably 5". Anyway, they fit perfectly in the space between the seat bottom and the side panel. Facing straight up, the sound filled the fishbowl -- they were awesome when loud but you kind of lost the subtleties at moderate volume. They really needed front speakers. With a pair of 4" replacing the oval dash speaker, and a pair in the kick panels, you'd really have something.

Thanks MVH. When I install its getting 2 speakers in dash with bracket from Jerry I will put 2 in rear boxes. Not sure whether to face speakers vert or horizontal. But I want them portable so if anyone is in back seat they can be moved from sitting on rear seat to beside rear seat.
I will also run wires for 2 more as I may add 2 more (6 in total) with kick panels.
Stereo installer told me $200 to install everything and that includes materials and labor for boxes.

Made my own. I took the opportunity to make arm rests for the rear passengers and installing the speakers in the arm rests!!

Thanks Treb I actually seen the thread you started with your setup. Dads has factory armrests but I may do ssomething similar.

Don't let those 10 inch speakers fool you (it's only 500 Watts). I love my OLDIES!!! From Hendrix, Vanilla Fudge, Iron Butterfly, Strawberry Alarm Clock to Beethoven and all through the 50s.

ZZ TOP Rocks!!! Skynyrd is Rad!! I used 3/4" plywood. I figured those 2 10 inch speakers might slowly destroy MDF. I also mounted the two heavy amps to the plywood so I needed something substantial to hold the amp screws without ripping/stripping out. When you look at the car from the inside you'd have no idea I have all that stuff back there. When I open the truck lid at the car shows the music has an easy path to the outside!!

Not for this application, but, I did see a fella make use of 6X9 speaker boxes. Velcro into the corners. Seemed to work well.

the problem with portable speakers or ones velcroed in, is in an accident they become projectiles….a 6x9 speaker in a box would near kill you if it hit you in the head!! I’ve even seen twin subs where the box isn’t mounted, very dangerous…..I know we all think it won’t happen to us, but it just might….

I finally got speaker boxes made. Now I'm looking for different ideas in what to cover them in. Anyone got pics of speaker boxes and material they used?
Thanks

I would think any porous fabric would work. We have a fabric store that has tons of choices. Just think about what covers some good old fashioned house speakers. Gall dang technology is changing so fast when it comes to speaker technology. Glad to see you moving forward.

Thanks, boxes are nothing special, I repurposed empty home speaker boxes with new 6x8 Pioneer ovals I bought from a member on here years back lol
Helped clear up space and knocking down the list. I need speaker grilles as well as the "connector/plugins" that attach to back of speaker box for neg/pos wires. There is DAMNED NEAR NO SELECTION anywhere for DIY electronics. I hit 3 stores that had nothing. Bestbuy, Canadian Tire and Th Source. What a joke...lol even checked a dollar store as well as 2 thrift stores. Thrift stores had speakers but none with a decent connection block.
Check home depot and Kawartha TV(local independent stereo shop) tomorrow. Probably score at stereo shop but hopefully priced reasonable.
Depressing seeing no selection, sign of things to come I think. Like you said technology so advanced. Bluetooth speaker options out the wazoo. Hardwired not so much lol
I have black/grey patio carpet leftover from when I did platform in my tin boat.
Might use that but would like a different "fabric/covering".
I was thinking same material from door panels?
Ideas?
Thanks

I don't know man. Carpet might be too dense. Might have to polish up your soldering skills. Braided copper wire and butt connectors.

5 frickin years ago I started this thread...:BangHead::bs_flag:
None of the grilles were oval (6x8) at thrift store, they were all round.
I'm trying to get motivated. Either that or

How big are they ? Maybe go to a thrift store and find some big old speakers and use the facing from them.

 Ya, it was hard to not give you some **** about that. Less hard for Rat Rod Al. :poke:

I aint got room to talk. Havent driven my Barracuda in 10 years. Some day

For me it's not the motivation, its having too much stuff, a "lack" of room. For me a lack of room leads to chaos, add that to being unorganized makes getting anything done frustrating. Always tripping over stuff. Making a mess lol

I understand. Had to move the motherinlaw and all her stuff (temporarily) landed on my Barracuda. LOL

I cut two 6x9 holes in my new package tray piece and tried putting some cheapass chineseium speakers in and just tightening up the the screws busted up the plastic grills so I sent the junk **** back. Now I have to big holes in my new tray.:BangHead:
