I'm going to do just that. Tap the rear of the intake and put my heater core hose there. Then I'll put the sensor in to replace the coolant hose fitting. Thanks for the idea, I hope it works.
Here's hoping that your intake manifold casting will allow for this modification. Seems like most of the castings have ribs or other protuberances that are going to get in the way of putting a fitting directly over the water passageway in the head.
