Today I installed the caliper brackets and rotors on my 8.25. The Grand Cherokee setup worked out really nice. Tomorrow I'll have brake hoses made, so I can get it plumbed in. Now my only question about this setup. Has anyone used lokar universal cables for the park brake? I used them on my CJ7 that has the explorer brake setup, but can't tell if it attaches the same. I really don't want to year it a part find out.

Dam, 8 1/4 not 8 3/4. I got to start reading better !lol

It is my understanding the rear disc setup from a Jeep Grand Cherokee 8-1/4 can be used on an 8-3/4 rear end. The center hole has to be hogged out a little, and a 5th mounting hole drilled (8-1/4 uses only 4 bolts, 8-3/4 uses 5). I got a set to do this swap, I just haven't done it yet. Checking the measurements on my parts, the info I got on this swap looks correct. Parking brake cables would have to be figured out as they are different, but I don't anticipate a lot of trouble there.
 
Finally got the hoses, fittings and master cylinder for my conversion. The hoses were custom made at my local Parker hydraulics store. The banjo adapters are Fragola -3an to 3/8 banjo. The master is a 15/16 Dr. Diff unit.

So I am also getting ready to swap over to rear disc I have an
8 3/4 and the brackets and calipers are off a TJ wrangler only had to drill one additional hole and it bolts up perfect have not tried the rotor yet hopefully that will fit not sure if any of you guys have tried using the TJ brackets and calipers yet I am not sure if it is going to work with the original master cylinder and proportioning valve or if I need to upgrade this stuff as well what are some of your guys thoughts
 
If you have a single master cylinder you definitely want to upgrade to a dual master cylinder for 4 wheel discs. If you have a dual master already you maybe able to just remove the residual valve from the rear brake port of the master. I'm running a wilwood adjustable proportioning valve on the rear line. My car didn't have a proportioning valve originally.
 
Posting these pictures to show what not to do. I made this mistake and now I need to correct it.

If I were to leave it in it's current position there is a possibility that the bump stop could contact the brake hose.
This is what I get for doing my custom work on my Jeep and early bronco where the leaf springs are directly under the frame rails.
Oh well, live and learn. I just have cut off the mounts and relocate the hoses to the backside of the housing.

I made my own cables , the balls on the end of the cables can be re used , the hard part is getting the cut off cable out of them . Then u can press them on the correct cable length in a 100 ton press , will hold foreever if done right .
 
My original ebrake cables lined up perfectly on my jeep brake install. I have an auto and only use the ebrake for state inspection so I just hose clamped it to the lever but you could modify the lever by welding to attach to the Cable end. I have a 72 B-Body.

Hmm. May have to look at modifying my original cables. I'm waiting on brake hose mounting brackets to show up, so I can move forward again.
 
Hard to see from my pic but the Cable is supported by the jeep support bracket same as factory. To properly engineer my hose clamp set up you can weld a vertical piece with a notch that will accept the factory mounting in between the spring and the Cable end. No custom cables and almost zero cost. MoPar Action did a Jeep Patriot to 8.75 brake write up. Some good info there as far as ebrake goes. Works on 8.25. Fyi.....the Patriot brakes are beefier than the 96-97 Cherokee and will work on the 8.25.
Wish I knew that before my conversion.
 
Changed the hose set up today. I'm much happier with it now. No worries about the bump stops, hoses are away from exhaust and won't run on the leaf springs.

Now figure out the park brake cable. Have some ideas, but the length of the cable housing seems a bit long.
 
I ended up buying a universal e-brake cable kit from Summit. The original cable housings were about 4 inches to long and would have put the cable in a bind. I was going to run the cables all the way to the front and eliminate the intermediate cable. My exhaust was preventing that from happening, so I made up shorter cables than the originals.

The workpark brakes work great. Now on to the front end, so I can take it out to test the stopping power of the 4 wheel discs. I will update the driveability once I can get it out on the road.

Just curios. Do they make a 4" shorter cable? Or is that the closest you could get. Also Part # ? Thanks

It's just a universal kit Summit sells part number 761001. The kit has two cables that are 96 inches long. If you have clearance you could run the all the way to the front and eliminate the intermediate cable. If my exhaust was done differently I would have done it that way.
 
Do you guys have manuals is that why you’re so interested in the brakes
