Ok we got off to a slow start this morning. Switched vehicles for more comfort for the boys. Only left the house 30 min.behind what we wanted to.

Passed through and got a small shot of the old Blanco county courthouse in Blanco, Tx.
It has been a nasty day but goid day to be in the car so the adventure begins.
Question? Do you guys want me to post a link from Glymps so you can see where we are on a map?
I am uploading a video to youtube for tge next post and will update as we go.

Watch out if you cross into AZ from NM after dark on I-10. There use to be an AZ state trooper there all blacked out sitting off the side of the road. We called him the Black Knight.
If your not speeding he didn't bother you.

Btw. there are lots of FABO members along or near your route if you need help.

Used to be that it was sometimes very hard to find Luckenbach........unless you knew where it was!! People were always stealing the Luckenbach road sign after Willy made the tiny town famous. But now with GPS and Google maps it much easier to find....that's a shame, it used to be fun to drive around the country roads until you finally got lucky. Then when you do finally find the place it turns out to be a 1/2 horse town. The only reason anyone goes there is to see where Willy used to Party!! It's a hole in the wall with no hole and no wall but it was a Rock'n place when Willy visited!!!

We made a stop at a rest area between Ozona and Fort Stockton. Also saw a carnival worker.

Hope you dont mind me posting here but here are some images from the kickoff party this morning at irwindale raceway. The caddy Grammy died in the parking lot. It ate a couple pushrods and pushed out the lifters. Have fun.

And one more of the only A body in attendance. And my favorite shot. Credit to my girlfriend for capturing it.

It was always a great place to go in ‘70’s and ‘80’s. I grew up about 30 miles away and went to college about 75 miles away. Prior to the tourists, the old store was filled with antiques, inside and signs and band posters outside. There was always music from pickers. I don’t play an instrument, but my friends and I would go, listen, and drink lots of beer. We would go about 3 on Wednesday’s and grab an empty beer bottle of every type they sold - that was the day the beer trucks came in, and if they saw you with one of theirs, they would buy you a round.

Marge was the “Sheriff.” She ran the bar and kept the peace. She would not hesitate to cut you off if you were drinking too much or getting out of line. Hondo Crouch was the “active” owner. What a character. Told great stories and interacted with everyone. Look up his poem (I guess you would call it that) “Luckenbach Moon.” Or check out his humor, look up “Cedar Creek Clippings.”

I heard ZZ Top, Willie, Asleep at the Wheel, Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P. Nunn, Ray Wylie Hubbard and so many others at the old dance hall. We stop in occasionally just to drink a beer and lament the changes. BTW, they have a big car show annually, Luckenrod.

Can’t resist one funny Luckenbach story. Prior to thieving tourists, the outside wall of the old store that did not face the road had bout 20 steel traps hanging on it. One of my drunk friends and I got the bright idea to “set” the traps. About an hour later, a group of bikers rolled in and went to that side of the building to be obnoxious. Within 5 minutes we heard “snap!” After that, about six more quick snaps and a bunch of hollering and whining, we all walked around to see what happened. Several of the bikers had been shoving each other around and one got his pony-tail in a trap, then a hand, and then his buddies rushed over and started getting various parts in the traps. Getting them out was funny as hell, but would not admit to setting the traps.

We left out of Las Cruces around 8:00 and headed to Deming. Got to spend a few Hours with wagonman off FBBO and his wife. After a good time and lunch we headed to Arizona and our Hotel in Sonoita. After check in we headed out and got to visit with @Jim Kueneman and family to finish out the evening. Thank you all for the fun and hospitality.
