What headers have members used with Speedmaster aluminum heads? How is the fit with the spark plugs etc. ? My application is 69 barracuda, small block 360 , power steering ( Borgeson box) and power brakes. Thank you.

I have Speedmaster heads, Stock PS box (from Feel Stage 3), Doug's headers, Z-Bar, 90's Mini Starter, CVF Brackets for Saginaw box, poly motor mounts on a 69 K Frame and it all fits with minimal issues. The header bolt holes were tight but I didn't need to open them up to fit. Plug access is like Doug's with stock heads, pretty good.

Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me the part number for the headers? Thank you.

Is it d453?
Those would be the ones.

The only issue I had was with the factory power steering coupler hitting the back tube. I replaced the steering column with a Flaming River for a B-Body as I was was converting manual to power at that time.

Thanks for the info. So maybe a smaller than factory coupler would do the trick.

Maybe. People have reported no issues clearing the tube, some have beat the crap out of them, bent them, and dented them, but several factors can cause header fit issues other than the headers themselves. I might have just been unlucky with that one tube.

Got me to thinking. Do you have direct experience comparing stock vs speedmaster heads? If so I would like to here your thoughts about the two.

I put together a index of the Speedmaster threads that have been posted lately. Lots of good information. @318willrun will be taking his stock heads off and installing his Speedmasters for a comparison. I don't know if anyone has done that yet unless it's in a older thread. You may want to search "Speedmaster" and see what older information you come up with.

Thanks. I've been looking at the speedmaster threads but didn't happen upon a direct comparison. Sounds like 318 will run will be doing it. Can't wait to hear his experience.

one set of TTi 1 5/8 - 1 3/4 step headers bolted to one set of speedmaster heads and
one set of TTi 1 7/8 headers bolted to another set of speedmaster heads.....

spark plugs fit just like an eddy or oem head.

I replaced J heads with mine. Had the pop up 340 pistons fly cut to Zero Deck. Other than head bolts/studs that fit Edelbrock heads all stock stuff bolts up. They have the same Alternator fitment issues Edelbrock heads have.

Wait a minute I'm going to have trouble with my alternator!? Do you have a picture of the fix? So I can get prepared...

As far as performance , how did the motor respond to the head swap?

He ain't drove it yet...

Totally. I'm so close too. If I had about 2 full days on the car it would move under it's own power again. I'm constantly under a hail storm barrage of family needs and work.
Had 16 days off over Christmas/New Year and not one second spent on the car.

I get that about being busy and all but now as a result the suspense is killing me too.

There are others running them. Mike at MRL before he closed shop had a lot of dyno time and info on them. I sent my bare set to him for building and porting.
