Indy Cylinder Head business sold

I am glad to hear this. Even at their annual swap meet in Indy, they were arrogant, too good to answer any of my questions about their products, and the times I tried, I had the money to buy.

I hope the new owners still hold the swap meet in March, its one thing my son's and I look forward to all winter.

This could be a really good thing for Mopar folks.
Indiana State Fairgrounds website shows it being scheduled for Mar. 7-8th.

Have known Chris and Charley for years, bought several things from them. Great people to deal with and talk to. This is great news, wish them the best.Tom

I say, give the new owners a fighting chance. There will probably be some hiccups during the transition, but who knows they may well put out some interesting product.

They need a Half off price to get rid of all there junk first.
I'm talking out my arrsss here because i have never got anything from there.

Bad news travels fast and Good new is vary slow.
However, i can't remember of ONE time that i heard great, or good customer service!!!!!

They bought a "HoLe" and it will take some time to fix/dig out of it.
I hope they got it for 10 cents on the dollar. That way they can Q Control what goes out and throw the rest back into the melting pot..........

I ran 8.60’s for years with a set of their heads and then 8.40’s@160mph with another set. But then again I buy my stuff used and then modify it. I only dealt with them directly once Or twice and that was enough. One rumor I did hear was that Ken was sticking around for awhile probably to help transition. I hope they keep them away from answering the phones.

Send the entire CUSTOMER SERVICE department out for retraining or suggest a career change. Major changes required before my hard earned would ever be spent there again.

Always enjoyed the march swap meets. Sold stuff and bought stuff and made it to the semi finals in the reaction time races one time. Won $40. lol

Agree with you, always had a good time at the March swap as long as I didn't stop at the Indy Cylinder display to talk to them. That is, with the EXCEPTION of a couple of years when they did something right and had Herb McCandless there working for them. He is a CLASS act and a pleasure to talk with, a great man, complete opposite of "that other guy".

Over the years I had tried to talk to Russ but it's hard to talk to somebody so full of himself. However the last time I was there he knocked 50 extra bucks off on a set of 308 heads with the 202 intake valves. I pick them up for $500. So either they were hard up for some cash or he actually just wanted to do something decent. Which I hope it was do something decent.

just had an email conversation with these people, they say all their engine blocks are now custom made per customer so they dont stock any stock blocks or any blocks that are on the product list online, dont even have anything available,Ill go somewhere else, sounds like they are trying to push theire own machinework, too bad,I thought the new owners were going to be better, looks like not
maybe, maybe not. Depends on what block you're looking for too. Not trying to stick up for Indy as their customer service needs much improving but I do know I've talked to Johnny about big block crate and engine building, they're hard to find in quantity and very low demand so they chose not to make them. Perhaps Indy is running into a similar issue.

Do you are upset already and this just happened what, a couple months ago. Lol. Meanwhile their plans are to move the business to Ohio, find a new caster or buy casting equipment, deal with government agencies, and only God knows what else. My buddy ordered and paid in full for a block from Indy last August so the wheels have to turn slowly before you can go full throttle.

which is odd because Ohio has stricter laws on EPA stuff than Indy does.

here is the email from indy, you decide

All of our blocks are custom to the customers needs and wants so there will never be a time that we just have one sitting on the shelf waiting to ship. It does not work that way with blocks.
To me, that reads that they don't start building an engine until its ordered. Not that they don't have blocks. Which, is actually a good thing. Storing a fresh machined block for long periods can be problematic and you do risk having to re-machine it. It can be done, but probably not at the scale Indy would do at. The local dirt track engine builder is the same way. Barn full of blocks, but if one goes to buy one, its a couple weeks until he gets the machining all done and assembled.

Like I said, Im not defending them. I've only purchased parts twice, both times were their custom valve covers.

thats possible as well. Either way, I fail to see what the big deal is.

I can only imagine , that some of their attitudes were derived from dealing with really stupid people , over and over again . Wears on you eventually , to go along with personal arrogance ----------think about it . A guy can usually tell how much a person knows about a subject , in this case ultra hot mopar parts.----no , Ive never bought from them , never had the coin for their stuff !!

They do have some very nice products. I have 2 sets of their 440-1 big block heads, one set of 360-1 small block heads, 2 big block Indy intakes, 2 small block Indy intakes, all bought used. I let others pay the premium for new parts.

I agree completely. Anyone who has dealt with people as customers to make a living knows about the developing cynical and negative attitude you tend embrace.

Bingo......Talked to Russ in the early days and he was as helpful as could be.

Yep, same thing happens here on these forums, same questions over and over, mostly from people too lazy to figure anything out for themselves. They find it easier to just type a question and let someone else do the research and work for them. :drama:

Edit: I should add that neither in business or here on a forum does that make it acceptable to treat people that way.

I don't think the questions are a problem usually, it's arguing about the answer. I suspect the people at Indy ran out of tolerance. Takes special people to deal with the public. I hope that Indy survives, they started when very little was out there for our favorite brand.

You're right, answers to questions here are all over the place and everyone thinks their answer is the only correct one. That leads to the arguing of course. So yes, dealing with the public in a business is difficult, I agree. But the forum is also dealing with the public, just not face to face.

PS. let's not argue, OK? After all, I said you were "right".
