Hoping for advice on a recent electrical problem. Car is a 1971 Dart.

The parking lamp circuit was working, now it is not. The right front parking lamp is out and the right dash turn signal indicator glows when the headlamp switch is in park or on positions. The parking lamp bulb is fine.

I checked the forward light harness pigtail and have 12 volts at the parking lamp terminal. I also checked the inside of the bulb terminal and have 12 volts there, too. Could this be the ground for the bulb housing?

Any ideas appreciated.

Check the bulb for continuity.

The filament inside can appear fine, but that does not mean the bulb is good.

Hi TA and Dana, wasnt there a similar thread a few weeks ago? Cant find it.
Kindred, Maybe swap the bulb with a new one. Should be an 1157 dual filament bulb. It can get installed incorrectly and give you feedback issues, so make sure the pins line up, one is higher than the other, and twist it 1/4 turn to line them up. see pic.

I can’t think of any work I did that would affect just one parking lamp. I tried a new bulb - no luck. I will see if I can get a better ground for the socket. Any other ideas are welcome.

It's only 12V, sometimes they just build up resistance, hit a bump, slam a door, it doesnt take alot, especially the grounds.
I soaked my 69 signal light ground spade connectors in a Dixie cup with vinegar and baking soda solution. They came out bright copper. Rinsed them and squeezed them a bit, slid them back on, no issues in 2 years.

Fixed! Bad light socket ground. Removed socket. Cleaned inside with emery cloth and electrical cleaner. Cleaned ground wire and mounting screw.
Thanks everyone.

the reason I ask is like if you were under the dash installing a radio, loosened a wire. if you were under the hood loosened a wire. removed a ground etc. sometimes we find our keys in the fridge! nothing should be off the table at this point. glad you figured it out
