shots from the garage...

Well here we are.... still haven’t raced since MaTS. Oldism must be taking hold because I just could care less about going to a race track camped out in a sea of asphalt on a blazing hot day. We are for sure going to street car super nationals in Vegas in November ..... mostly to watch, but we’ll run the bracket class. In the mean time replaced all 20 lights on the trailer to new LEDs, and upgraded the 3000 super winch to a 5000 HF unit. Should have done that years ago! This thing gets the car in the trailer pretty quick.

...and November has arrived! Still plan on racing. Prefer to freeze my azz off over sweating it off! ....well freezing in a desert sort of way 40s-50s :)

Sounds like the Bunt out syndrome?... Park in trailer for 2 years and then start over.... ::
Been there done that.... Know the feeling... Break Time.. Cheers.... Just dont sell it... My biggest mistake....

Cars not going anywhere yet... we’ll come out swinging with the W8 in the bay again this spring and see if we can get it down the track correctly.

Yes Tony!! I’m going to be there! Was just referring to the fact I haven’t considered selling the pos!

good news! Qualifying went great! Good data, good lights!!

....and I threw it all away on race day. Oh well, great time freezing with good friends. It’s safe to say that was the last Street Car Supernationals I’ll take the car to. Ungodly amount of downtime and schedule changes. I might return to watch.... but I’m not going to be tethered to a car all weekend hoping they call you to the lanes.

funny learning experience. Thursday afternoon, after the rain, I was pulling out for tech and noted a hard bump going on with the car. The dang Terminator trans brake button was sticking. Pulled up on it and drove to and back from tech ok. Upon getting back to the trailer I started looking at the switch. Pushed on it a few times and it seemed a bit sticky. Well I grabbed a can of brake clean and gave it a shot. Bunch of black grime came off it and it worked lightning quick.... for about 10sec. Big oversite that the body of the trans brake button is plastic and I basically melted it. Went to a self guided class of switch disassembly and was able to ream/clean the bore out with a drill bit. Lubed it with silicon spray and made it through the weekend. Also put the shift timer back in and the Co2 for the air shifter. Let go of button, drive car... pretty boring I guess

Sometimes it is good that you can not get off work to go to the races....lol

that is the race that never ends......

No idea when the W8 is coming home... no biggie, super busy with the pending holidays and we’re having fun with the 360. Decided I’ll be heading for Wild Horse Pass in January for the first 2 day points race which will allow me to hang out with my dad at the race track. What’s even cooler is the fact he’s expressed an interest in wheeling the car with the slower power plant in it. He hung up his helmet in 12 and I think this will be a fun!

Should have it finished in a week or so...

Well we can refer to the above November garage pict and insert here.... went over the car this weekend and I think we’re race ready for the season opener in Phoenix. Adjusted the valves for the first time in like.... well I don’t remember. We were in such a hurry getting the car to the track back in May it never got done.... after that we just spaced it off. Car was running great, no odd noises... run it!! Anyways I warmed it up and pulled the covers and all was well.. .016 across the board with minimal adjusting. Guess I was feeling guilty after Brian sent me a pict of a cracked bearing retainer in one of my Jesel rocker arms on the W8 mill. Luckily it didn’t lose any needles, but you can bet I’d a probably ran it until I did. There again I got a bit lax in my maintenance and with the investment in that mill I need to pay a little closer attention. I actually watched a good video Ben Strader made (EFI University) on checking valve train and things to look out for. I’ll have to apply it :). I’ll load the car next Sunday after a mini vacation to the coast and head to the track the following Friday. I’m actually pretty excited!! ......even though my dad refuses to wheel the car. Maybe he’ll reconsider when we get there :)

First race of 2020 in the books.... had a new best of 10.71. Matter of fact on Saturday the car printed off 10.71’s 6 passes. Unfortunately in rnd 3 I let the car down with an .004 red. Sunday 1st pass we went 10.69 (another new best) but red lit both test hits and round 1..... man I have no idea WHAT HAPPENED!!! hope it’s a seat time issue. I need to get a handle on this!

Slow down that button...........
Took two shims out.... going to put my taller tires on for next week.... also lower the launch rpm. I’ll probably get it figured out just in time to throw it all away when I put the other engine back in!

Saturday broke out in rnd 2... this is Sunday where we went from 62 cars down to the final four. Car picked up a little..... OHHHH SO CLOSE! Fun time and gathered some points. Rolling in the drive at midnight kinda sucks though.

just a screen shot of a pass with the lil engine in place. Interesting to note that the 1-2 peak rpm was a bit over 6800 so we dropped the shift timer 400rpm. No use in beating on this combo unnecessarily. I think many would find it interesting as to where your shift light is “set” and where your actual peak rpm is. Drive shaft ratio comes down slow as this converter was designed for our W8 mill. Wrong tool for the job if you want ET, but makes for a wonderful bracket combo as it doesn’t hit hard on the launch and 60’s repeatedly. If you move the cursor the converter slippage drops to 1.07. That number is lower with the other engine in. I just had the basic sensors on this. I monitor O2 and oil psi with the W8.

Saw this post and looked back at some pics. I don't have that house any more or those cars :( White car is 68 Dart GT vert pretty nice, other car 64 Valiant vert a 25 maybe 30 footer but looked good going down the road. A 318 push button was a lot of fun to drive, you could park it any where and not worry about it.

It’s been talking to us for some time now.... an annoying leak at the rear of the engine had progressively gotten worse. When you pull the car on ramps every couple of passes to wipe it down.... it’s time. Drained the oil, loosened the steering rack, dropped the pan. If you get the idea I like tube k, no torsion bars....you’re right! Bearing on the main cap looked good and a new rear main seal was installed. Ran the car 20min and so far so good... MaTS in a little over a month and we’re READY!

the “period correct” carb for bracket Betty... a swap meet Barry Grant we got from a friend in the 90’s!! I will say this lil carb has performed flawlessly on about every engine it’s ever been on. I “think” I had the bowls off it 5-6 years ago when we played with it on our W8 mill on some test passes. I’ve been wanting to jet it down some, but was afraid to try and get the bowls off at the track! Yesterday was the day and I knocked the thing apart and took some jet out and renewed the 30cc accel pumps. Assembled it back together with some Superperformance Gaskets.
Swapped the slicks side to side, put a turn in the front coil overs and a few other things. Car is ready to rock!
