There is a clean roller up here that was restored years ago, looks like a single stage paint. Comes with a 4 speed trans, pedals and hump are there, and the engine is in pieces but it does match the VIN

Has an H Code VIN plate on the dash, but, no fender tag, and no VIN of any kind on the rad support or the trunk/quarter rail where they should be, so obviously not a real H code car. We did not check the inside of the speaker area as I did not know that was the third place to check until after I looked at the car

I am trying to get a hold of vehicle standards up here, but I am curious if this is an issue in other jurisdictions not having a VIN on the car except for the main VIN plate on the dash?

Being a rust free Duster, already a color I like (hemi orange), I don't care if it's fake. I just don't want any issues here, or any issues when/if I might sell down the road

The price is right as well, but would like to avoid a problem before laying down any money

Can't speak for other states but in WA, so long as the title matches the dash VIN you are good.

Single stage paint can be kinda thick, and with primers even thicker. Are you sure there isn’t rad support numbers or trunk lip. Sometimes if you lie on your back in the trunk and look up you can see the trunk numbers but in reverse of how they appear from the top

Ok I see what you mean, the opposite side of the stamping... Agree that these paints are thick, but pretty sure they were both body worked over. I will do the trunk laydown thing

I don't remember exactly what he said, but Steve, (Oldmanmopar) has claimed that he has found one/ some cars WITHOUT any additional partial VIN stampings. I think at the time he was talking about his 71 Duster??

Rear body stamp on a Duster is in the speaker shelf.

Radiator support stamp can be on the top or the engine side. Anywhere from near the battery to half way across the radiator, sometimes even under the antifreeze sticker

We checked the rad support high and low, nada. I will check the speaker shelf

Usually on the drivers side near the speaker hole.

Best of luck with the search!

Thou I suppose it is possible, but I have never found a 69-76 A body that DIDN'T have the Vin stamped in the core support. I have owned maybe 150-200 A bodies in my life.

Awesome thanks!

This is the car in question

Ahhh that car..... i think I know the story on that car and was thinking about buying it myself. I wouldn’t hesitate. The guy you’re looking at buying it from hasn't owned it all that long, he bought it off an old timer who was taking his time restoring it. I think it was a drag race car for a lot it’s life which is why is rust free? (I haven’t see It myself but so I’m told).
If he has the old registration with the dash vin, just buy it. I think the price is right and am surprised it hasn’t sold yet. If I had the room it would already be here (and I’m almost done my current project and will have the room soon!). Go get it before I do!

70' Darts made at the Windsor plant don't have the vin stamped in the radiator support, its under the pass side fender.

Yes the real story is much different than what is being told. The real story is what you said, he bought it the way it is, along with another Duster for $6K for both from an older guy who is actually in my neighbourhood. The story that is being told however is the car was brought up from Wisconsin 25 years ago when the body work was all done and he has had it ever since. I have a feeling the two stories merge at some point lol. Does not matter either way, I agree its a good deal.

I think so. Make sure it’s been Imported right or the reg exists. Let me know if you don’t buy it.

vin, on US build car radiator support and driver side speakers area
Vin on R code Canada built under the passenger side fender on top of the inner fender and right rear speaker area.

Duster and Darts

He just texted me saying sale pending, lol. My timing is perfect as always

70-71. 72 I am not a fan of the tailpanel/tailights. Roller or driver are both good depending on price.

Both of mine had it on the radiator support.

My 1970 LA Dart though, it had the rear body stamp on the opposite side from my Windsor & Hamtramck cars.
