Cam and Rocker Question

What year 318, transmisson and gear ratio? The 308 heads are great but they will likely kill your static compression, depending on what heads are on your teen now. If you choose to use them a custom cam would likely be required to get the dynamic compression up. Cam will greatly depend on your willingness to change the valve springs, possibly top the guides and maybe add a converter.

If I had this to do I'd leave the heads I have, look to a 340 repo grind or similar (or custom) and use the performer and carb you have. Save the money you'd put into the 308's for a good set of headers (Doug's or TTIs) and exhaust system (Jegs or Summit direct fit).

Stock rockers work great as long as they are not worn, new heavy duty ones are available. If you swap cam, please degree in the cam to the crank. Buy a good multi index timing chain.

Or, if it ain't broke leave it alone and pick up another 318, 360, 5.2 or 5.9 to build while you enjoy your car on the side.
