340 X heads and Doug's D453 headers

-
the way i read it, he wants to get the entire 340 and swap it into the fish

those header will work fine on X heads
im pretty sure W heads are the only ones with a different port design

Hi BooGTS
After reading through many of the header postings Im planning on going with long tube headers for sure on a '69 340 x head in my 68 Notch 4spd. Shorties don't seem to have a guaranteed fit advantage . I have p/s , manual brakes. Front is lowered 2" via drop spindle. Im moving towards installing the 340 to begin a Shaker Hood fab fest and should start some header test fitting as well I suppose. How did your Dougs work out for you assuming you got your 340 swap done? Obviously im curious about ground clearance, fit and performance.
Thanks
Tim

Hi All,

Bought Dougs 447D453 headers for the 273 in our 67 Barracuda.

https://shop.dougsheaders.com/doug-...-coating.html#product_tabs_description_tabbed

Then came across a 340 with X heads to buy. I was told that the port shape may be different. New to small block Mopars, will I have a problem with port matching or installing the headers in general? Thanks!
I hope you have better luck with Doug's headers than I did with TTI headers, they were a total ***** to put in. I have a 67 fastback 340 X head power steering Barracuda.

Yeah i hated tti headers and I dident like there design. Doug’s needed a mini starter but other than that they fit good.

How's your ground clearance with the Doug's?
They do not hang down low at all. They actually are built to be closer to the floor but not too close. They don’t heat up my floors honestly the design is so much more improved vs like hooker or headmen where the header was practically on the ground.

They don’t hang lower than my 7qt oil pain.

Damn that's a good fit! I've got P/S as well. Looks like Doug's is the ticket.

I got the bare coting one for like 450 bucks. And painted them with high heat paint. 8 years later the paint is barley comming off. And most of that is from mnting them. Great flow and design tho.

Anyone put these on a 4 speed car? Instructions say to grind of some tabs on the bell housing. Does anyone have pics of this?

Hello again, I'm getting ready to buy thorley's, do you happen to remember or have a part number? Seems there's many to choose from.
Thanks!
Dougs is what we are talking about. Doug Thorley is a different brand.

So My engine guru told me, Dougs and Doug Thorleys are the same. Wife got the Thorley name after a divorce, Doug started Dougs, same products.

Does thorley even make a SB header anymore?

They might be the same base name, they are NOT the same parts from what I recall.

I don't see any Dart listings under Dodge. It doesn't look like it.

Hi, so I have a set of Dougs D 453s, I think it's the only application for our cars. I took torsion bars out, passenger side is installed. On the driver side I removed p/s box and torsion bar, easy install but not enough room to reinstall p/s box. Took header out, replaced p/s box and struggling to get header even close with box installed. I believe we have the same headers, and we both have p/s. Do you remember your install sequence for driver side?
Thanks
Tim
