Brake hoses?

Yes, and you’re right, it’s hard for to visualize them from this angle. It’s just that it looks like the supply hose should be opposite of where it is, not to the front but the back so to speak...

looks like if you turned full right in this pictures the hoses would hit the shock?

Turned full right and it's close.

If I swap the calipers the nipple will be on the bottom and the brake hose (supply hose) will be beneath the piston and nipple this is correct?

Those are A body 73-76 ish calipers. If you had later 82-85 ish diplomat calipers it would take care of that. I would still swap them side to side, but bleed them first off the rotor by putting a block of wood in between the pads to act as a rotor until they are bled, them put them on the car... does that make sense.

this is a later diplomat caliper. If you can visualize this in place of the one you photographed you can see that with the right hose attached to it, oriented away from the shock you’ll have no interference, and less overall movement of the hose.

Also, as you’ve previously already heard, you probably shouldn’t be using those hoses too. Im going to look for a photo I took a long time ago that may help you.

Lol I have some of those calipers; they are just black still, maybe I'll paint them.

Sounds good though I will swap them side to side.

Yea 69 camaro hoses may have worked better but I ordered a set (these ones) that I saw recommended on FABO and only after the fact saw people posting about camaro hoses.

sometimes don’t try to make something wrong work just because it’s already been bought/paid for. Brakes are a serious thing. Who ever recommended them for this application was flat out wrong. The right hoses are cheap.

the right ones are $30 shipped to your door.

Actually my 76+ 2.75 diameter piston calipers are the same as these ones.

You could use either of your calipers (black or gold but swap them side to side) if you get the right hoses and bleed them off the car with the bleeder pointing up then bolt caliper in place. It’s a pain, but that can work.

get the right hoses and sell the others or put them away and save them for your next A body with front mount calipers.

That is probably the smart thing to do! For now this will have to do until new lines come in. I switched the caliper and bled them off the car as well. Right now I have no bind at full right turn or full left turn.

Your '73-'79 calipers and A-body hoses are designed to be installed facing the front of the vehicle. Mounting them toward the rear results in funky hose routing.

'80 and newer calipers and '69 Camaro hoses yield a much cleaner installation.

Thanks for the information. I have all the parts cleaned up and painted. Plan on tackling the project this weekend if the weather is yucky. I haven't gotten brake hoses just yet since the car doesn't have a swaybar (I thought it did for some reason) so waiting to see which way works out better with calipers on the back or the front.

if you don’t have a sway bar mount them on the front and get the 73-76 a body hoses. You could probably buy a never used but mounted pair of 73-76 hoses off @DentalDart as he needs the camaro ones

My camaro ones came in today. Yes I havent used the front mounted hoses but I did bent the metal collars on the 73-76 ones to make them fit my car better. Just ended up getting the correct ones for safety and piece of mind.

You will need to use brake hoses for a 72/73 b-body on early A-body. You will be mounting the calipers behind the spindles verses mounted in the front like a 73 -76 a-body. Because you will not be able to steer, The calipers will hit the wider early stabilizer bar .

Your metal line is at the rear of the wheel on the body. On a 73-76 there is a length of metal line added to the hose to go behind the spindle moving the hose to the rear when they are mounted in the front. B-body hoses do not have that extra length.

I use them on all conversions and swap the spindles from left to right on 67-72 a bodies unless you are using the 73-76 control arms and later stabilizer which is narrower. The picture below will show you the difference in the early to late stabilizer and how much wider the early style is. When the caliper is mounted in the front it will hit when steering the car.

I finally started my swap. It's a 68 fastback. It looks just like your set up. I can't see the fitting on your caliper. Is it a straight or a banjo fitting ? Advance shows a straight for 72 B body disc.
Thanx
