1969 Plymouth Satellite

Nice Satellite Bruce! Welcome to the forum. At the very back, top center of the block, there's a 1/8' or 1/4" pipe plug. Attach a mechanical pressure gauge there. Sometimes, the lifters chatter if not started for a while. If they get quiet shortly, all is likely OK.

Thanks Demonic.I will look for that.1st I have to finish replacing both rear wheel bearings and see if that gets rid of that scraping noise I keep hearing in the rear of the car. Thanks again.Bruce.

Scraping? Unlikely the bearings are making that noise. Bad rear axle bearings often make a buzzing or growling-like sound. Reminiscent of a small engine airplane. Axle bearings on an 8 3/4 are a bit involved, and require new outer seals that go between the retainer flange and the bearings. More likely a brake issue.

Demonic, I went thru the brakes and didn't see anything rubbing or any rub marks. When I have it up on jack stands I cant hear the noise. Thanks Bruce.

Drive it a little with the wheel covers off. make sure the lug nuts are all tight. I had a Chrysler once that the wheel covers squeaked and groaned at low speed. I bent all the retainer clips out a little bit and all was quiet!

Demon, I did take the hub caps off , a friend told me about that, still had that noise. Yesterday I replaced both rear axel bearings , took it out for a ride still have that darn noise in the rear end. Does any one know where I can hook up a oil pressure gadge ? I cant seem to find the oil sending unit I want to check the oil pressure. Its not by the oil filter. Thanks in advance Bruce.

Welcome aboard Bruce! Oil sending unit should be right by distributor. There might just be a pipe plug there. It's a 318?
Check rear end for proper fluid level. Also try raising up rear end and turning rear tires by hand and listen for scraping.

Thanks 4spdragtop.{yes she is a 318}I will check there for the oil sending unit. The rear end fluid is up there because I just replaced both rear axel bearings and seals yesterday. I tried that by putting it up on jack stand and turning the wheels , no noise that way, I even dropped the drive shaft and tried turning the wheels no noise that way???????Thanks Bruce.

Thanks Idahoi am still driving it to work every day.Seems like new cars don't like to be passed by a older car and they always speed up and go pass me when I pass them.LOL.Bruce.

That's totally because they want to ogle that beauty!
