Hey guys, looking for some guidance. I bought myself a really cool 1965 coronet stock 361/3speed manual on the tree. I’m planning on doing a 440/ 4speed swap. I’m hoping you guys can just lay some good knowledge on me. I’ve already built my 440 it’s a 69 block did some mild head work. And just today I went and picked up a lot of the parts I need. A Lakewood scattershield, and a 1965 4 speed. It uses a companion flange like my factory trans. The previous owner used it with a slave cylinder, but he lost the clutch fork,

fist question will the 3 speed clutch fork work in the scattershield? if not what do I need. I’m using an aluminum flywheel with an 11inch clutch.

second question. Is the 1965 833 a good trans. It uses the factory companion flange but I’m not sure if I’ll run into any issues with it.

third am I over looking anything? Fee free to school me. I’ll post some pics tomorrow.

I know this is abodysonly but honestly I feel like this is the best place to get schooled and any input comments or wisdom you guys could give me would be much appreciated.

Love the 65! Here’s ours for a little motivation, 440/auto. Good luck with your build!

Congrats. Looks like a fun car you found. You might want to check in on FBBO as well. Lots of 65 owners there.

headers are going to be high $ for it if you have to buy new. if you already have mounts, you are ahead. would have to look at parts book in garage to c if fork for 3/4 speed is same. 4 speed you have will be ok but driveshaft may b weak point at flange. there are other ways around the header deal. i have owned 6 of those cars. i grew up around the 62-65 cars. then i got into a bodies. i like both very much.

I already picked up a set of 7/8 primary to 3in collector hooker ceramic coated headers for a charger, for $50...
I have a whopping total of 2800 in this car including every part and the price of the car... craigslist scrounging...

I’m actually starting to fall in love with the 65, it has great styling and is just the right size. I’m only 23 and have had tons of mopar a body’s, my current only daily car is a 71 swinger. But I got a good deal on this car and really like it.

check your header app guide. 62-65 was different than 66/up. you may have to rebuild those headers you have to get them to fit. you could use them if you put a 66 up k member in car. an old super stock trick for weight transfer. b sure to look at your oil pan as 65 has to have pan that has the drop back between the 2nd and 3rd hole on pass side or it will hit k member. cool cars when done.

I’m not opposed to making them fit in the car. I’m planning to use the oil pan that came off the 361, and pick up. All that should just bolt onto the 440 correct?

I think the 65 uses 1 year specific motor mount brackets, similar to the big block A body, needing the bosses on the left side of the block. Maybe others with more experience will chime in on this issue.

oh wow I really hope not.... I can fabricate if I really need too but I can measure the 361 to the 440.

I was told a long time ago that later K's will fit these bodies? Don't know. I once owned a '64 Dodge (440 model) 426, but that was a LONG time ago I put a 440/ 4 speed in the thing, it came as push button auto. I don't remember any stumbling blocks, and this was WAY before Al Gore invented the internet.

Sorry, You shouldn't have any problems, I was thinking, it's the 65 C Body that uses the big block A Body left mount bracket. Your 361 brackets should fit fine. Schumacher Creative Services has a lot of useful information on their website.

the old super stock trick was to put a 66/up k member in it to transfer some of the frt end weight to rear. if you look at one with stock k member, see where trans bell housing bolts are. if you put 66/up k in the bolts are moved back to firewall similar the little-to-no room a bodies. stock k can remove bolts with wrench. 66/up have to drop trans some. 66/up k can use 66/up headers. my first set of hookers, for my 65, that had 1 tube each coming out the slots that you loosen upper a arm eccentric bolts were 750.00 simolians. the wight transfer was worth the labor as it made car 51/52 -49/48 percent frt to rear.
