I'm in the process of finding out more about the S.O. number located on the fendertag on 1965 Mopars.

When a dealership sold a car to a customer that needed to be ordered, the dealership ordered the car from the zone representative. The zone rep ordered the car from Chrysler in Highland Park. After the order was placed Chrysler did the production planning. That meant that the ordered car got an order number and a scheduled assembly date.

In 1965 model year Chrysler had different series of order numbers. I'm in the process of collecting all order numbers from the fendertag to see if it's possible to get the correct input for the Mopar history..

I have an idea how this might have been but I need proof. Due to this reason I couldn't ask for a better help then from the FABO community. I know for sure that 65 Darts built at Hamtramck had the order number 06XXX or 99XXX on the fendertag. (might be more too)

What I need is a picture of the fendertags only from Los Angeles built cars so I can be sure of my theory. I don't need your VIN# so that is not neccessary. Los Angeles built cars has digit 5 as the fourth digit in the VIN# showing assembly plant Los Angeles.

I would be very grateful for any help in this matter. I will of cause show my result and theory here first before any place else.

Thanks in advance

Ulf

That's cool Don! Scheduled assembly day was Monday 19th of July. The last week of production. Friday 23rd was the final day for 1965 cars.

yes, I knew it was really close to the end of production - just never bothered to find out exactly when production ended!

I just noticed that a Dart GT I parted out had a production date of 7/23. It was a Charger 273 4 speed with factory AC. I’m sure it was most likely a Detroit built Dart.

Mfg. Plant is actually the 4th digit in the VIN. EG. a '65 Dart GT built in LA would be: L455-xxxxxx. An LA built '65 Valiant V100 (V8) would be V155-xxxxxx.

65 Barracuda LA build "April Fools" car...maybe that's why when I got it it was HH Copper poly instead of listed NN Barracuda Silver? I'm guessing mines the first Barracuda in this post.
Sequence number 163722...its silver now, waiting on its '4B' black stripe .

Thanks! This is probably the most well optioned Barracuda I ever seen. Cool!

This car assembled B20 November 20th, used PNT on the fendertag compared to Patch's car assembled C09 December 9 which had the new PAINT stamped pn the fendertag. In between those dates the change was made. Any more tags between those dates woild be great to find out which week the started the new stamping.

The reason for this seems to be more and more cars had so many more painted related info that the old three letter stamping just could handle a three letter/digit code while the stamped PAINT could handle a fove letter/digit code.
Just look at Bob Jasinski and pishtas Barracudas. They all had a five letter/digit code.

This means that sometime during this time the assembly plant in Los Angeles changed the stamping on the fendertag. I think I need more pictures of LA assembled car during this period to get the exact day.
Thanks for all the help.
