How do I deal with it?

Ive seen huge indoor snow skiing pavilions in Japan... I gotta believe heat lamps and sand is doable if entire pavilions can be frozen and make snow ?

...... some of us like the cold fresh air and the quiet sounds of winter living in the middle of nothing. Not for everyone but works for me.

Roger that! I spent quite a few years at sea and living aboard ship even when in port. Much of it aboard submarines. Also spent a great deal of time on patrol out in the boonies (infantry, priour enlistment). Miss being at sea. Miss being in the boonies. Have no need for crowds of noisy people and big city hustle and bustle and traffic. Grew up in the country and enjoy the quiet. Wife is younger than I. When she retires, we plan on moving to a quiet place up in the Texas hill country. Maybe a 30 minute drive to the nearest town.

Have been trying to understand this 'seasonal affective disorder' thing......

If it affects me, I am not aware of it. Since retiring some years ago, I have found that my natural instinct is to be up and active from sundown to sunup and sleep days. So unless I must do something during the day...... That's what I do.

And no...... I do not have a 'smart phone' nor do I have anything to do with 'social media'. I enjoy my quiet time and have no need to be a part of the Borg-like 'collective'. Cannot begin to imagine why anybody would feel a need to do so. But different strokes for different folks, I reckon. :)

Best regards to all,

Harry

I here ya Harry The small town I live in is about 100 people and the nearest stop light on the road is 50 miles away. I love the peace and quiet and able to do what I want without bothering the neighbors.
My son has a small plane and was able to land it on the main road this winter and taxi it to my house. Try that in the big cities. lol

OP describes me to a T.

Exercise. Even if just walking. Go to the mall or the gym or where ever, and just walk.

We rely on Punxsutawney Phil to predict our weather here in Pennsylvania. Now the dickheads at PETA want him retired and replaced with a robot. PETA is a PITA.

Well Harry, this site IS considered ‘social media’. You are here talking, interacting and sharing your thoughts. That by definition is ‘social media’.

Nothing wrong with it, it allows us to connect with other people socially and discuss common interests...from continents away sometimes.

It’s only when it becomes a replacement for the actual physical reality of socializing with people that it becomes an issue.

Was chatting with my sister, she was saying that we are all "Solar Powered".

Got to find some Sun and get those ambition batteries charged back up again. I always wondered why I feel so much more ambitious when the sun is shinning. Guess I know now . . .

I'm starting to think Bears have it right. Bust *** the last half of summer to get fat as hell, and sleep all winter. :)

Get your blood checked. I suspect you're a vampire. :)

 Point well taken, Ddaddy. What I was referring to is best described in your closing sentence. The people who sit at the same table in restaurants, heads bowed as if in worship as they interact with their electronic 'devices' whilst ignoring one another. Or who walk about so absorbed in whatever it is they are doing on their smart phones that they seem totally unaware of their surroundings. Much like the street scenes in the movie 'The Matrix' where Neo, Morpheus and others walk down the crowded sidewalks in a busy city and no one seems to be aware of their presence......

My wife is younger than I and has a smart phone. A week ago, she hopped in the car and we went for a drive. About 5 minutes later, she realized that she had left her smart phone at home. I was somewhat amused to see that she was nervous, bordering on what I can only describe as withdrawal symptoms.

I reminded her that she had bought a flip phone a while back and it was in the console. She got it in case the car craps out at 0-dark thirty in the morning in the middle of nowhere so whomever is driving can call AAA for a tow. Really, I think she got it for me as I have no smart phone, but I leave it in the console and never turn it on unless the car craps out or some other such emergency arises. About all I do with it really is to bring it in and put it on the charger every few weeks so it will be ready if needed. Nonetheless, I believe she was genuinely disconcerted by not having her smart phone at hand. So I turned around and drove back home so she could get it before leaving once again for our drive. :)

Best regards,

Harry

By the way Harry thanks for your efforts in the Military to keep us at home safe.
People now a days have no clue what you went through.
If your avatar is you and guessing it is.

Thanks, Fred. I was only one of many. We were just doing our jobs......

Dong Ha, Quang Tri Province, RVN. 1967. Were we ever really this young? Yeah, that's me. 19 yrs. old. Just made L/Cpl. 4th from right, standing with captured AK-47. They wouldn't let us keep 'em as souvenirs, though.

My buddy Robert in foreground at right, standing with M14. A wise crack and a smile for every occasion. KIA at Con Thien. Miss him to this day.

Best regards,

Harry
