10's on $5,000 ?

-
Maybe a “before” track test is in order.
Change the oil, make sure the other fluids are good...... brakes good, etc...... off to the track for a quick test “as is”....... see how far you have to go for a “10”.
Well, let's get the car first. lol. Of course, if it indeed pans out, I'll go through the car.

I passed on similar duster last year in La, but it was all there street legal, run pretty decent for $3000. I say bargain himdonw $500 or so and go. (Easy spending your $$$$ !!)
I'm not in Texas, nor am I in La. LOL. These are not laying around up here in the rust belt in good shape "drive her home" for 3k. LOL Maybe in 1989 ? Again, if somebody has a better deal closer I'm listening - I haven't bought anything yet :)

Does the guy seem negotiable on it?

It's going to be hard to negotiate when I'm not there and he will most likely deliver it. I'll be paying his gas, burger & fries on top I'm sure.

WTH??? Is this guy related to Jpar and have his cheeseburger addiction????? LOL.

I'm glad this is moving forward. I'm getting all excited.

So what would a stock 440 out of a New Yorker, per say, have for HP/TRQ with just headers added?? 330 hp?

If it is stock I wouldn’t waste my time testing it as is. Sure if May answer some questions for some members but so what. Go for the Home run and put a cam in it and those Speedmaster heads and go for the gold.

^^^This^^^ Except the temptation would just be too great for me. I'd probably be axing the whole budget thing and start scrounging around seeing what kind of old crusty 6- or 8-71 setup I could find to strap across the top of it.

well, here are my steps:
  1. Get it here... until then nothing else matters
  2. Start the process for the title (Arrggg! Our state will be a pain! :BangHead:)
  3. Go over the car for safety. Brakes, steering, wiring, gas lines and shifting. It drives now so that's a good start.
  4. Verify the mechanics. Engine (temp stable, compression, oil pressure, any leaks?). Transmission (shifts good, any leaks?). Rear end (howls, growls, verify gears, any leaks).
  5. Add a passenger seat!!!!
  6. Tech Inspection at home for the dragway.
  7. Make it street legal … lights, blinkers, exhaust.
After I knock out the list above, then I will move forward with performance.

Got to disagree. Think about it. This is 318 you are talking too. He HAS to know what he is starting with. It would warp his mind not to have that base line. I would never ask him to do anything that is against his nature. His is a nature of from "start to finish" and I applaud him for this. Who was there for the "little guy" when they only had $500 to hop up their car? Who was there when the "little guy" did not know how to do some basic porting on their heads?
318 is who.
A vote for 318willrun is a vote for freedom.

You are right, it is against my nature...…. and your last line... BWHAHAHAHAAA

I guess I look at it as...... the only extra “work” involved with testing it as is...... would be bringing it to the track and making some passes.

Many on this site love to talk about how “the track is the dyno”...... so think of it as the “before” dyno session.

I'd have to pull the dang thing apart and take a looksie. and my budget would be out the window we would be at 10.5 for that extra 5 grand

Well, anyone that knows me knows that I will cover all the bases. Yes, once I was sure of everything and I had done what I wanted as far as the list above, I would run it as the motor sits. Remember, I don't have a time frame for 10.9's.

I think the $4000 can be a decent price IF, you know all the IFs!!!!!! All about condition and what you are getting for our $. I mean our $ !!!!

Me I rather have a few more $$$ in a car I can love than some off the wall model I will hate just to have a platform for an engine. But again I ain't spend ing my few dollars!!! lol

Hotrods, mom and apple pie!!

In my highly unprofessional opinion I would guess 250 to 275.

NET horse power perhaps, but gross will be over 300. Even in dead stock trim. With headers, a better intake and a good ignition curve, 360 ain't outta the question and over 400 pound feet.

What is a pound feet? A 440 don't got no stinken pound feet. All 440 where rated by foot pounds.
