Many many years ago, I bought a couple of pkgs of brass rings from the Mopar dealer. Found out when I installed them, your exact problem. It turns out that every single ring was cut too deep in the strut recess. My cure was finding, in my stash, 4 good used rings. And they are still in there today and only one of them is tired; Hyup second gear, lol. It's always second that goes first.
Also in that new package; IIRC, at least two of them were no longer round, and I had to make them so. No big deal but you gotta watch forchit like that. I haven't found a home for them yet. Hyper said
Take a good look at this; install your forks into the cover and check that the rooster-combs absolutely prevent over-travel. I've never seen that cover make trouble, but in your case, you gotta check everything.
