10's on $5,000 ?

well, here are my steps:
  1. Get it here... until then nothing else matters
  2. Start the process for the title (Arrggg! Our state will be a pain! :BangHead:)
  3. Go over the car for safety. Brakes, steering, wiring, gas lines and shifting. It drives now so that's a good start.
  4. Verify the mechanics. Engine (temp stable, compression, oil pressure, any leaks?). Transmission (shifts good, any leaks?). Rear end (howls, growls, verify gears, any leaks).
  5. Add a passenger seat!!!!
  6. Tech Inspection at home for the dragway.
  7. Make it street legal … lights, blinkers, exhaust.
After I knock out the list above, then I will move forward with performance.
Will the DMV in your state have to inspect the car? With that homemade dash with no VIN tag , that may be a problem.

I'm not sure. He says he has the VIN. Our state is a nightmare anyways when it comes to title business like this. Yes, it could very well be a problem.

If he has the dash vin tag it better be attached to the original dash. Otherwise do Not show it to the Sec of State officer unless you can handle about a $10,000 fine. Your better off without it. They will inspect it and get the numbers off the body parts.

I’m glad I don’t want my junk to be street legal. To many headaches.
well, different cars for different purposes. A dedicated bracket car for me would be worthless. I'm not a gambler, so I wouldn't pay to try and win the purse. I make it to the strip every so often, so having a car that saw the trailer every so often to make a few 1/4 passes, well, rather pointless.

Putting on the wrinkle walls on Friday night and grabbing a STEAK before you do some back road test and tune is fun too. :D

That VIN crap would be enough for me to walk. Not that I think it's hot, but just the extra wrenches thrown into the mix. That's negotiating material at the very least. What if you cannot title or register it? Defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Or is this a race only project?

You're hot on this thing, so slow down and really think it over. Just my friendly advice.

I'll get the VIN number from him and do some checking before I buy it. If I KNOW I can't get it on the street, I won't buy it. IF I buy it thinking I can get it on the street, but find out I can't, then I would transfer motor, headers, tranny, rear end into one of my Dusters, and sell the body for drag only. Virtually blowing up this 10's for 5k deal. LOL

Buy it cheap, switch all the parts you need to one of the titled Dusters. Sale all the spare parts to recoup some money.

Whatever you do, save enough money for a STEAK, I like cheeseburgers, but all the talk about them by certain members, makes me think cheapskates. lol

You hush up. I had a good cheeseburger tonight. First one I've had in a long time.

At least with the stock (as is) run we would get some big block data for a new penalty box breakdown chart.

I don't like the penalty box. lol
should be classed only by cubic inches and no penalty. heads up !
I guess your game your rules :p

No penalty box would take the guy with a 318 2bbl pickup right out of it. Penalty box gives all a half a chance to win, play, and have fun

I think the $4,000 duster completely defeats the whole purpose here... Especially when you already have two dusters...

I think it's a Great plan.
And the only plan that will get him close to his goal.

Are you sure that it is a 440?

I agree, I like it too. What everyone seems to be forgetting is, he can sell "what's left" for parts if he has to transfer everything to one of his other Dusters. That will get some of his money back and level the playing field some.

Generic goal was to buy a car and try and go 10.9's for 5k. If I buy a Duster with the drive train already in it, and already gutted, wouldn't that be smart money??

I cannot be sure, I haven't seen the car. It's 6 hours from me.

If I buy the Duster, I would be disappointed in parting it out. The goal would be to put the thing on the road. IF this car had a title, I'd even be more aggressive in making it mine.

If he guy has the dash vin just buy a dash out of parts car, buy the 2 funky rivits, and there you go??
He's going to send me the VIN number. Looks like the original dash frame is under the aluminum.
