.....so I'm trying to get the front of the 360 back together, was attaching the lower crank pulley, can't find the 6 bolts, no problem, I'll go and get some new hardware and get this done without wasting time looking for the old stuff, so I go in the store, yep need 6, 5/16 18 bolts and some lock washers, up at checkout, "so,what do I owe Ya?" dude say's "$12.37", WHAT !, uh just put them back then, next stop is Tractor supply, get the stuff, go to check out, .88 cents. what the hell?

Uh, so You would pat 12 bucks for 6 bolts and washers? that's my point, maybe You b rich as hell or just nutz, thought it would be obvious what i was talkin' bout.

Be careful with tractor supply hardware. Most of it is grade 2 and is crap.

What store did you go to get that? I can get ones like the factory ones with captured washers from my local Fasten-Al for less than half that price.

No, the title says "say what"....

So I said "What"...

I'm on both sides of this one. I HATE being ripped off for stuff that is pennies elsewhere, but to the point above, I have also twisted the head off cheap bolts with a nut driver...
Lesson learned to make sure stuff is grade 8 when possible.

TSC has their bolts graded and seperated by the bin area.

For the record, most places are supplied by a company called "Hillman", however I have seen a slight difference in quality and finish between those at TSC (better) and those at Lowes in the grade 2 and 5 products. The grade 8 looked the same..

Also for the record, Hillman stock pays 9% (although you pay tax on OID discount, so it's not really 9 after all that)

...so that's where the profits go!

Just as bad, there's a fastener store here, there's always ONE employee that is on the counter who is surly. I hate goin in the damn thing. And you are right. Ace is a rape joint. And you go to Lowe's/ Home Depot and they don't have squat, unless grade zero carriage bolts are what you want.

I guess for $.88 even I could afford to toss them for an upgrade!, I don't know what they're paying the employee's at the first store, but $12.37 rolled of his tongue as easy Jack Daniel into a shot glass.

I always get my hardware from Tractor Supply for that very reason.
Yesterday I bought 4 grade 8 bolts and two nuts and it was $1.88
That same stuff at Ace would have been double digits I'm sure.
If I want specialty stuff like chrome Allen bolts, then the only local choice is Ace.

We have Menards here that is more reasonable than Lowe's/Home Depot...

Look around your area for a specialty hardware store.
Here in SoCal we have McFadden-Dale Hardware (mcfaddendalehardware.com) with 4 locations in SoCal and one in Las Vegas. They carry fasteners I didn't even know existed, and lots of other stuff.
Hillco Fasteners (hillcofasteners.com) is also an outstanding source for specialty hardware.
And don't forget sources like McMaster-Carr (mcmaster.com). They have locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles and New Jersey.

Ace, although large national brand, is a franchise coporation. So though they fall under some control of the parent company, are run independently and can charge whatever they want.

The "For redrilled holes that still don't match" brought back some memories!
Years ago I did design work for a company that made earthmoving equipment accessories. I was designing a new ripper shank for the back of a dozer and working from a print that had been furnished by the US Navy.
The person who did the Navy drawing obviously had access to some "secret technology" because the drawing showed a "U"-shaped lifting eye attached to the top of the ripper shank and the drawing indicated that both legs of the "U" were threaded into the ripper shank! Really? How the heck do you thread in two legs of a "U"?
It had to be the same technology used in your bolt for redrilled holes!

Ocdart, McFaddendale hardware is like my candy store. I work near the corona location and I am there at least once a week. If it’s made, McFaddendale has it. I love that place. Even smells like a hardware store should smell.

Shouldn't be a problem, as long as you install the U bolts while the ripper shank is still hot and gooey
