First like to say what an awesome forum. Think it will save us from going crazy!!!

My 16yr old bought his first car....we have wanted to do this forever and we are finally giving it a go!

We got car pretty cheap with lots of extra parts. It looks really good from the outside but it’s innards are not so good.

We’ve taken it all apart and have built a jig and welded the car to it. We decided to start at the front and work backwards. After removing the floor we noticed the inner rockers are done.....so now I’m thinking we should have started from the rear and worked forward...so we are stuck for now until our massive amd order shows up. The following pics show where we are at.

(We have a new firewall coming....just mocked up the clip for fun. Sick of looking at frontless car)

Oh wow, you guys jumped right into it lol! What a cool project with your son, I bet he’s super excited to have the car and the icing on the cake for you is getting to do this with him.

It’s a challenge but some good “life” lessons for him. I’m really impressed how the car community in our area has taken him in and helping us out.

Cudos to you guys for taking on such an ambitious project.
You'll both learn a lot of new things as you go along, some of them will be swear words...........

I have to say here, it’s awesome to do a project together, I never had that opportunity, good for you guys!! But maybe if you haven’t gotten too far into this one you may want to seriously consider finding a more solid starting point and sacrifice this current one to parts car status?

Wish i had a son.....
Got 3 daughters, 3 son in laws and 3 ex son in laws.
All’s good cause 1 son in law has a body shop.

Good luck on the project.

Building my Duster with my old man was some of the best quality time I spent with him. Awesome bonding time.

I wish the same to you and your son. Car looks great!

Hello, and welcome to "The Wonderful World of 50 Year Old Mopars". Looks like you've got a big job ahead, but you weren't fazed by it and jumped right in! Can't think of a better way to learn and develop skills together, and come away with something you can both be proud of... as well as a new respect for each other. Enjoy this time together, and we're all here to help whenever needed.

Oh my, ambitious project you have taken on, gives a new meaning to the term "sweat equity" lol. Great way for you to bond with your son, many of us never had the opportunity, my old man was always criticizing me for what he called wasting time and money on "old greasy cars" and I never had any kids of my own, a couple step kids, who I tried to teach as much as they were willing to participate and learn, which usually wasn't much, certainly never anything as in depth as your project. Good luck with the resurrection of another fine '69, and please keep us posted on your progress or with questions as there are many skilled and experienced folks here who will be only too happy to keep you on the right track to success.

Thanks for all the comments. My dad and I always wanted to do a project like this but we run a business together so time and money never happened at the same time. Cool thing is he quite often comes in to help to...pretty cool to have 3 generations working on a project!

Got into repairing one inner rocker....the boy did a pretty good job I think! Decided to rent sanblaster and clean up some of the rusty spots. Didn’t want to do any of the body panels. Should make the panel and frame replacements easier. Also found a few more rusty spots to fix. Still having fun.

Wow. I thought my 69 Dart was a project, but it's nothing compared to what you guys are doing. Kudos to you! My Dad was not into cars when I was, but I have been able to share other projects with him over the years. A father/son project is something special that can't be overstated. Good luck with your project, and keep us posted. The world can't have enough 69 Darts!

Looking great, amazing progress, are you going to replace the front inner fenders or going to repair them?

We we going to repair them but found out our drivers side frame rail is pretty rotten so we may replace fenders too. Would like to find a good complete front clip but we shall see. May be tough finding parts for the next little while.

What about the drive line? Usually I ask whats under the hood but your hood was on top of the roof!

7.25 rear is good for a laugh. Do burnouts till she pops. If you cant find a good 8.25 or 8.75 then a narrowed ford 8.8 out of an explorer works well. Check out the sticky on the 8.8 swap on fabo. Narrowing it is actually easier than you might think. Only the left side needs shortened to center the pumpkin, then use a second RH axle in the left side. All of em has 31 spline axles, a mopar bolt pattern, disc brakes, and good ratios like 3.23, 3.55, 3.73, 3.90, 4.10, and most came with clutch type limited slips.
