Roadtrip to Roadkill Zip Tie Drags 2020

-
Can you explain the trip you are taking for us that don't have a clue please, so we can keep up .
Thanks

Thanks for this Mike. As usual those "who know" figure "everybody knows". I "don't know".

Nobody can resist taking photos in Texas Canyon (yes that is what it called y'all from Texas!). Great meeting you and your family, enjoy your time in Southern Arizona (and thanks for the coffee!).

Got back late last night. My first Road Kill event. Funny that the major sponsor was a Zip Tie manufacturer. Met some interesting people and saw a lot of innovative mods. I’ll post some pics later when I download from my phone.

As a note I think the the state of the hobby is in good shape. Saw lots of early 20’s to mid 30’s guys and gals both participating and spectating. Seems those road kill guys have a following. Refreshing to see an old guy.

Had a great time. Trying to get out phone calls, upload photos or send texts was a pain. For the guys who were there sorry we didnt get to connect. Was fun and great. My boys got to sit and talk with Lucky Costa, Mike Cotton and David Newbern from Hotrod Garage and Faster With Finnigan. They were awesome taking time to listen and inspire. We got the autographs from David Frieburger, Steve Dulcich and Mike Finnigan. They were awesome as we talked with them multiple times. We also got to talk with Chris Birdsong and see his car as well as talk with Luke and Olivia (olivia.mopar). Was a great time.

Watch out if you cross into AZ from NM after dark on I-10. There use to be an AZ state trooper there all blacked out sitting off the side of the road. We called him the Black Knight.
If your not speeding he didn't bother you.

Btw. there are lots of FABO members along or near your route if you need help.

We cannonballed through NM and AZ at 95+ one night coming home from Texas to So. Cal. We went untouched thank goodness. Safe too. Them roads were empty and like rails.

Hope you dont mind me posting here but here are some images from the kickoff party this morning at irwindale raceway. The caddy Grammy died in the parking lot. It ate a couple pushrods and pushed out the lifters. Have fun.

trying to contact the owner of the red 74 Dodge truck

That was a very well done truck. New hemi 4 speed. Sounded good and I bet it runs well. I talked to him a bit and asked to buy it (joking but kinda serious) and he said not for sale. There is a member here who was friends with the guy and I’ll see if I can get him to come on. I forget his screen name at the moment.

Ha, I wasn't driving! Seems everything around there is like 30 minutes away. How far is Enchanted Rock?
If you've never been to enchanted rock you should really enjoy it. One time we went there early in the morning and as we approached the big boulders we saw a deer running briskly along the base of the rocky outcropping, no big deal until a few seconds later we saw a large Bobcat running along the rocks just above where the deer had been running, the Bobcat was chasing the deer. Can you say "fast food"!!! It was a little scary seeing a Bobcat on the hunt just 40/50 yards away with the kids in tow!!
Also, if you didn't know, there's a tunnel (long cave) that runs under enchanted rock. It's hard to find and you'll need a flashlight for the journey.

Ooh, totally missed that! I guess it wasn't in the brochure. We had a mountain lion run past us in the brush, not more than 10 feet away in Camp Pendleton. We were sitting still on a patrol and this thing just ran past us with a huge turkey vulture diving at his tail. Also had a Catalina Island fox pull a 'watch cap' off one of my sleeping Marines during an early morning firewatch. No fear, it just came up on him, sniffed his sleeping head and took off with his beenie! I had night vision goggles on and watched the whole thing unfold. My little guy spent half the hike on my shoulders.

And one more of the only A body in attendance. And my favorite shot. Credit to my girlfriend for capturing it.

That you for that pic of my lil bucket. I’m going to blow it up and frame it!

This was my 2nd year and I had a blast, again! We met the young guy with the 74 D100 at Irwindale. It had a 2010 5.7 hemi attached to an A833 overdrive trans. It ran great with no issues all way to Tucson and back. He said he got between 23-25mpg. That convinced me that the Valiant needs a 3gen hemi and a 6spd!

I want to come back and film the run out of Sonoita north on 83. Wish I had filmed that.
I have Bisbee drive through in timelapse though.
